The Devil Wears Prada 2 continues to lead the Czech box office three weeks into its release, according to the latest from the Czech Film Distributors’ Union. The long-awaited sequel starring Meryl Streep and Anne Hathaway fell a modest 22.2 percent to add CZK 8.8 million to its three-week tally of CZK 52.4 million. It will pass Project Hail Mary, which has earned CZK 54 million over nine weeks of release, as the highest-grossing 2026 film at the Czech box office later this week.
It might see some strong competition, however, from music biopic Michael, which fell a negligible 1.9 percent in its third week of release to add another CZK 6.64 million to its total earnings of CZK 42.6 million. The Michael Jackson biopic has already surpassed The Devil Wears Prada 2 at the U.S. box office, and will look to overtake it in Czechia as soon as next weekend.
The Super Mario Galaxy Movie surged back into third place in Czechia, rising 29 percent to earn CZK 2.6 million, bringing its seven-week total to CZK 35.9 million. It was the second straight weekend of resurgence for the Nintendo movie, and it might continue to ride the wave without another major animated film hitting cinemas until Toy Story 5 and Minions and Monsters in the second half of June.
The Sheep Detectives also saw an increase in revenue in its second week of release, rising 14 percent to come in fourth with CZK 1.96 million, bringing its total to CZK 4.36 million. Hugh Jackman stars alongside the titular cast of sheep who turn to detective work when their shepherd is found dead; the film is screening in Prague in both English and Czech-dubbed versions.
Mortal Kombat II landed in fifth, earning CZK 1.42 million in its second weekend of release to bring its two-week total to CZK 4.52 million. Falling 37.8 percent, the video game-based sequel saw the steepest drop of any film in the top 20 save for Billie Eilish – Hit Me Hard and Soft: The Tour, which fell a precipitous 81.2 percent as it lost premium screens.
Among a light weekend for new releases, heavy metal documentary Iron Maiden: Burning Ambition fared best, earning CZK 1.33 million to come in sixth. The band’s members, and its fans, recount 50 years of metal legacy in the new theatrical feature.
Animal Farm, Andy Serkis’ much-derided adaptation of George Orwell’s classic satire, landed in seventh with CZK 1.21 million; the film is primarily playing in a Czech-dubbed version in local cinemas. Oscar-nominated French animated feature Little Amélie or the Character of Rain earned CZK 204,000 in its first weekend of release to chart 18th.
Despite a limited number of screenings, the 40th anniversary re-release of Top Gun earned CZK 528,000 to come in at 13th in the top 20. Top Gun: Maverick also re-entered the top 20, coming in at 17th with CZK 213,000.
