Spider-Man: Brand New Day swung into Czech cinemas with one of the biggest opening weekends in local box office history, according to the latest figures from the Czech Film Distributors’ Union. The latest Marvel adventure starring Tom Holland grossed an enormous CZK 43.81 million over the weekend, with an additional CZK 11.61 million from Wednesday preview screenings pushing its five-day total to CZK 55.42 million and drawing nearly 257,000 admissions.
The superhero blockbuster recorded the fourth-biggest opening weekend ever at the Czech box office, trailing only Avengers: Endgame (CZK 58 million), ONEMANSHOW: The Movie (CZK 55 million), and Avatar: The Way of Water (CZK 48 million). It also delivered the biggest debut of 2026 by a considerable margin, comfortably surpassing The Odyssey, which had opened with CZK 25.39 million just two weeks earlier.
According to distributor Falcon, the strongest turnout came from teenagers and young adults who grew up with Holland’s version of Peter Parker, while longtime Marvel fans and families also helped fill theaters, particularly for dubbed 2D and 3D screenings. Sold-out shows, fans arriving in costume, and long lines outside multiplexes were reported in Prague and other major cities throughout the opening weekend.
Early audience reception has also been encouraging. The film held an 83 percent audience rating on Czech-Slovak film database ČSFD at the start of the week, with viewers praising its more mature story, large-scale action sequences, and Holland’s performance. The impressive Czech debut mirrored the film’s exceptional international launch, where Sony reported a worldwide opening approaching $1 billion, making it the studio’s biggest opening ever and the second-biggest global debut behind Avengers: Endgame.
Christopher Nolan‘s The Odyssey slipped to second place after two weeks at the top but continued to perform strongly, earning another CZK 14.48 million despite a healthy 31.1 percent decline. The historical epic has now amassed CZK 86.44 million after just three weekends and appears well on its way to becoming one of the year’s highest-grossing releases in Czechia.
Universal’s Minions and Monsters continued its summer run in third place with CZK 2.41 million. The animated hit has now earned CZK 54.23 million after five weeks in theaters.
The weekend’s only other wide debut was the Czech comedy Bohemian Paradise (Dovolená v Českém ráji), which opened in fourth place with CZK 2.23 million. The local comedy stars Tereza Ramba, Jiří Langmajer, and Petra Hřebíčková as members of families whose summer vacation in one of Czechia’s most popular tourist regions descends into a series of comic misunderstandings.
Elsewhere in the charts, Moana continued to underperform relative to Disney’s biggest animated releases, dropping 42.7 percent to fifth place, while Czech comedy Bardotky suffered a steep 72.2 percent decline following its strong opening weekend. Lower down the chart, Japanese anime Umamusume: Pretty Derby – Beginning of a New Era debuted in 14th place, while Czech comedy 6 Grams (6 gramů) continued its limited preview rollout ahead of its nationwide release later this month.
