Meryl Streep in The Devil Wears Prada 2 (2026)

Czech box office April 30-May 3: ‘The Devil Wears Prada 2’ fashions up best debut of 2026

The Devil Wears Prada 2 earned a massive CZK 18.2 million at the Czech box office over the holiday weekend, totaling CZK 22.74 million including Wednesday previews, according to the latest numbers from the Czech Film Distributors’ Union.

The total for the fashion-themed sequel starring Meryl Streep and Anne Hathaway was enough to surpass Project Hail Mary and The Super Mario Galaxy Movie for best opening weekend of the year four months into 2026; only the third weekend of Avatar: Fire and Ash has taken in more in a single weekend this year.

The new debut pushed the musical biopic Michael, which took in CZK 7.44 million to bring its two-week total to CZK 24.79 million. Despite a soft-ish 38.4 percent drop, the second weekend of the Michael Jackson film suggests it won’t have the legs to challenge Bohemian Rhapsody, which remains the second highest-grossing film of all time at the Czech box office.

The Super Mario Galaxy Movie finished in third. The animated sequel to 2023 megahit The Super Mario Bros. Movie fell a modest 32.8 percent, earning CZK 1.78 million to bring its five-week total to CZK 30.66 million. While predominantly playing in Prague in a Czech-dubbed version, original English-language screenings can also be found at select cinemas.

Project Hail Mary came in at number four, and continues to display strong legs at the Czech box office. The Ryan Gosling-led hard sci-fi story fell 38.9 percent in its sixth week of release to take in CZK 2.12 million and bring its total earnings to a hefty CZK 48.44 million.

Lee Cronin’s The Mummy maintained its position at fifth in the box office charts for the third straight weekend, falling just 27.9 percent to earn CZK 652,000 and bring its three-week total to CZK 3.76 million. Horror titles have seen frightfully low box office tallies in Czech cinemas this spring, with Ready or Not 2: Here I Come and They Will Kill You also underperforming.

In a light weekend for new releases beyond The Devil Wears Prada 2, The Legendaries came in tenth with CZK 182,000. The animated French family film about a beloved team of heroes is screening locally only in a Czech-dubbed version.

Limited previews for The Sheep Detectives, which opens next weekend, brought in CZK 352,000 to land in at ninth in the charts. Hugh Jackman stars alongside the titular cast of sheep who turn to detective work when their shepherd is found dead; the film is screening in Prague in both English and Czech-dubbed versions.
