‘Destination X’: Season 2 of NBC reality series with Jeffrey Dean Morgan films in Prague

NBC reality competition series Destination X has added Prague to its growing list of European filming locations, with production crew and host Jeffrey Dean Morgan spotted in the Czech capital earlier this month during filming for the show’s second season.

Photos and firsthand accounts shared on social media confirmed filming activity around Old Town Square on May 5, where crews from UK production company Twofour were preparing scenes for the upcoming season of the travel-based competition series. Temporary notices posted in the area informed pedestrians that scenes and background footage were being recorded for a television program identified as Destination X.

Morgan, best known for playing Negan in The Walking Dead franchise, was seen rehearsing scenes in Prague’s historic center during the shoot. Fans who encountered the production shared photos online after meeting the actor between takes.

The Prague filming marks another high-profile reality television production to use the Czech capital as a backdrop, continuing a trend that has increasingly seen international unscripted series incorporate the city’s landmarks and streets into their formats.

Prague joins the road map for season 2

NBC officially renewed Destination X for a second season in March following a successful debut run in 2025. The series blends travel competition and mystery gameplay, with contestants transported across Europe aboard a blacked-out bus while attempting to determine their hidden locations through clues and challenges.

According to NBC’s synopsis, players must place an “X” on a map at the end of each episode to guess where they are. The contestant whose guess lands farthest from the actual location is eliminated, while the winner receives a $250,000 prize.

The series is hosted by Jeffrey Dean Morgan, whose recent television credits also include The Boys and The Walking Dead: Dead City. NBC described the show as the network’s top-performing new summer series of 2025 when announcing the renewal earlier this year.

Destination X is returning with the world as our playground to deliver new unforgettable adventures that will keep viewers guessing every step of the way,” Sharon Vuong, executive vice president of unscripted programming at NBC, said in the renewal announcement.

Production notices posted in Prague identified Twofour Broadcast Limited as the company overseeing filming on behalf of NBCUniversal. The UK-based production company also produced the first season alongside Universal Television Alternative Studio.

Prague’s appearance in the series fits naturally within the show’s format, which relies heavily on recognizable European destinations and visually distinctive urban environments. The Czech capital’s medieval streets, Gothic architecture, and central European setting make it a frequent choice for both scripted productions and reality programming seeking an identifiable continental backdrop.

Reality television continues to embrace Prague

While Prague is widely associated with large-scale film and television productions, the city has also become an increasingly common stop for international reality series over the past two decades.

One of the most recognizable examples is The Amazing Race, which has filmed multiple episodes in Prague and elsewhere in Czechia across several international editions of the franchise. Most recently, the long-running competition series featured Prague’s Žižkov Television Tower during a 2025 episode, continuing the show’s recurring use of Czech landmarks and local challenges.

Destination X itself has prior ties to Prague through its European adaptations. A German-language version of the series filmed segments in the Czech capital in 2024 as part of its multi-country itinerary, underscoring the city’s appeal for travel-based entertainment formats.

Reality productions are often drawn to Prague for many of the same reasons as scripted film projects: relatively compact filming locations, varied architecture, experienced local crews, and established production infrastructure. The city can convincingly represent multiple European settings while also functioning as itself, giving producers flexibility in travel-oriented formats.

Unlike traditional studio productions, however, reality series frequently incorporate public interaction and recognizable urban spaces directly into the program’s storytelling. Filming in heavily visited areas such as Old Town Square allows productions like Destination X to capture both Prague’s atmosphere and spontaneous public reactions as contestants navigate unfamiliar environments.

The second season of Destination X is expected to premiere in mid-2027, with production currently underway across Europe. Prague’s inclusion suggests the upcoming season will continue the series’ emphasis on internationally recognizable destinations as contestants attempt to determine where in the world they have been taken next.
