‘The Amazing Race’: Contestants scale Prague’s TV Tower in Season 38 of hit CBS series

Season 38 of The Amazing Race will bring its teams to Prague this fall, with a dramatic challenge atop the city’s landmark Žižkov Television Tower. Contestants can be seen harnessed with safety equipment at the top of the 216-meter structure in footage from the season’s debut teaser, hinting at a potential bungee jump or rappel over the Czech capital.

The new season of the long-running reality competition series premieres on Sept. 25 on CBS. Filming began in Amsterdam on March 17, 2025, before moving to Prague on March 19, and continued through stops in Croatia, Hungary, Romania, and Italy. The Prague challenge is teased as one of the season’s high points, with sweeping aerial views over the city.

Big Brother alumni take on a European race

Season 38 of The Amazing Race has a unique twist: the competitors are all former contestants from Big Brother. Thirteen alumni from the CBS reality series return to television, this time competing alongside a travel partner in a fast-paced trek across Europe. Host Phil Keoghan once again leads the competition, which sends teams racing from country to country while completing physical and mental challenges.

The season opens in Amsterdam, where, for the first time in the show’s history, teams are tasked with completing a challenge before even reaching the starting line. The winning team earns an express pass, while the last team faces a handicap known as a Hazard. From there, the race continues across the continent, with stops including Budapest, where contestants “bathe like a king,” and Romania, where they skydive from nearly 13,000 feet.

“The Amazing Race takes the Racers and viewers on an unforgettable journey,” said co-creators and executive producers Bertram van Munster and Elise Doganieri in a statement. “Over 38 seasons, we have traveled to nearly 100 countries and more than 1 million miles, an extraordinary feat of storytelling and logistics.”

The Prague TV Tower challenge is set to be one of the season’s most visually striking, adding to the show’s tradition of staging daring stunts at iconic global landmarks.

Prague’s history with The Amazing Race

This is not the first time The Amazing Race has used Prague as a backdrop. The Czech capital has appeared at least twice before.

In Season 15, contestants arrived in Prague and began their route at Old Town Square before continuing to a Trója kayaking venue for a rope course suspended above the Vltava’s rapids. Teams later visited the Estates Theatre, where one member searched for a miniature mandolin among stage props before presenting it to an actor in Mozart’s Don Giovanni.

Season 30 returned to Prague with a different set of challenges. Teams raced to the Rudolfinum concert hall and later to the Staropramen Brewery, where they searched through stacks of kegs before delivering a full one to the Fidelio party boat on the Vltava river. Other locations included Charles University, where teams were tested on astronomy lectures, and the Andělská Lázeň Beer Spa, where contestants continued their route. The leg concluded at Letná Park, overlooking the city.

For Season 38, Prague’s TV Tower takes center stage. Built in the late 1980s and often ranked among the world’s most unusual structures, the tower is known for its panoramic views and the giant crawling baby sculptures created by Czech artist David Černý. Its prominence in the new season places it alongside other world landmarks that have hosted the show’s challenges, from the Eiffel Tower to the Great Wall of China.
