Prague’s Riegrovy sady beer garden might be the city’s most popular summertime destination (along with its cousin in Letná), with hundreds of visitors filling the parkside venue every afternoon and evening. As long as the weather holds.
Located in the center of Riegrovy sady park, the hilly expanse that boasts some great views of the sun setting over central Prague, the beer garden drew some extra-large crowds earlier this summer with screenings of the World Cup games. The crowds got so big, in fact, that visitors were scrambling over the outer fences of the garden to get in.
Now, the Riegrovy sady beer garden is showcasing some less-frenzied entertainment: weekly summer cinema screenings every Sunday and Monday night.
Movies are shown for free, and screen nightly at 21:00 through August 13; from August 19, films start at 20:30. All movies will be presented in their original language (English for most upcoming features) with Czech subtitles.
Next up on the schedule is a screening of one of 2017’s finest films: Christopher Nolan’s Dunkirk on Sunday, August 5. That will be followed by a presentation of Man of Steel on Monday.
The roster of films is a nice mix of favorites old and new that also includes a few choice selections. Those include a pair of Martin Scorsese classics, the Oscar-winning 2006 crime saga The Departed and his breakthrough NYC drama, 1973’s Mean Streets starring Robert De Niro and Harvey Keitel.
Also presented over the upcoming weeks at Riegrovy sady: Bernardo Bertolucci’s 1966 classic Blow-Up, the recent action movie sequel John Wick: Chapter 2, and Rob Reiner’s underrated and underseen 2010 family film Flipped.
