Summer cinema returns to Holešovice Market with free weekly Thursday movie night

Open-air cinema is returning to Prague’s Holešovice Market this summer, with Food Truck Point once again transforming into a weekly screening venue from June through August. The program features 13 Thursday evening screenings scheduled after sunset, continuing a format that has become a seasonal fixture in the broader Holešovice cultural complex.

Screenings begin in early June and run through late August, with start times gradually shifting from 9:03 p.m. in early summer to 7:52 p.m. in the final week as daylight hours shorten. Admission is free, and films are shown outdoors in an informal setting next to Hall 22, where visitors can also access a rotating selection of street food vendors and drinks.

A mix of international titles and Czech cinema

This year’s lineup combines Hollywood titles, cult classics, and Czech productions, reflecting the broad programming approach typical of Prague’s summer cinema scene. Several screenings are presented in their original language with Czech subtitles, making them accessible to English-speaking audiences, while others are screened in Czech or Czech-dubbed versions.

Among the English-friendly titles is Quentin Tarantino’s Pulp Fiction, opening the series on June 4 in its original version with Czech subtitles. Other English-friendly highlights include Grease, Greta Gerwig’s Barbie, Wes Anderson’s The Grand Budapest Hotel, and David Leitch’s Bullet Train, all presented in original versions with Czech subtitles.

One screening, Loners (Samotáři), is presented in Czech with English subtitles, offering an opportunity for non-Czech speakers to catch an English-friendly version of a modern Czech classic. Meanwhile, Hayao Miyazaki’s Spirited Away, musical Mamma Mia!, and 1980s classic Back to the Future are all screened in Czech-dubbed versions.

Food Truck Point and open-air experience

The cinema takes place at Food Truck Point, a seasonal outdoor food court located beside Hall 22 at Holešovice Market. The venue is designed as a casual social space, combining seating areas with a rotating lineup of food vendors. This year’s selection includes items ranging from Greek street food and Indian cuisine to burgers and sweet crêpes, reflecting the market’s international food profile.

As with previous editions, the atmosphere is informal, with audiences seated on benches, blankets, or standing around shared tables. The screenings are weather dependent and are canceled in case of rain, with no alternative dates scheduled.

Organizers note that updates regarding cancellations are posted on social media channels and on-site signage, including a new notice board indicating weather-related closures.

The combination of cinema, street food, and open-air seating continues to position Holešovice Market as one of Prague’s growing summer cultural hubs. While programming is not exclusively focused on English-language films, the weekly free screenings makes it one of the more accessible outdoor cinema options for international audiences in the city.
