Marlon Wayans in Scary Movie (2026)

Czech box office June 4-7: ‘Scary Movie’ laughs to the top as ‘Masters of the Universe’ flops

Scary Movie led another strong weekend at the Czech box office, according to the latest from the Czech Film Distributors’ Union. The spoof sequel, sixth in the Scary Movie franchise and first from the Wayans family since Scary Movie 2, took in a whopping CZK 12.1 million, ranking it behind The Devil Wears Prada 2 as the second-highest 2026 debut at the Czech box office, just ahead of Michael. Wow.

The horror spoof pushed Backrooms to the second spot, though Kane Parsons‘ liminal horror film fell a soft 37.4 percent in its second week of release. Backrooms earned just north of CZK 4 million to bring its two-week total to CZK 12.9 million.

Obsession, meanwhile, is showing the same kind of legs it has displayed at the US box office over the past month. After debuting in fourth last weekend, Curry Barker‘s low-budget hit surged 62 percent in its second week of release, claiming the third position in the charts with CZK 3.45 million and bringing its two-week total to CZK 7.32 million.

Czech comedy What a Way to Go (Pět švestek), the latest film from Oscar-winning Czech director Jan Svěrák (Kolya), came in fourth in its second week of release, falling 40.4 percent. It earned CZK 2.12 million to bring its two-week total to CZK 7.40 million.

The Mandalorian and Grogu tumbled another 49 percent in its third week of release to land in at number five in this week’s charts. The first Star Wars film in cinemas since 2019 took in CZK 1.92 million to bring its three-week tally to CZK 17.5 million.

Michael and The Devil Wears Prada 2 both continue to hold strong in their second months of release, finishing sixth and seventh, respectively, at the Czech box office this weekend. The Devil Wears Prada 2 took in CZK 1.49 million to bring its five-week total to CZK 60.1 million, while Michael netted CZK 1.79 million to bring its six-week total to CZK 49.4 million.

Among other new releases, blockbuster Masters of the Universe completely flopped at the Czech box office despite a wide release across premium formats. Based on the 1980s Mattel toy line that few Czech viewers have any nostalgia for, the fantasy feature debuted to a paltry CZK 830,000 to finish eighth.

In limited release, I Swear debuted in 11th with CZK 410,000. Filmmaker Kirk Jones’ heartfelt biopic of Tourette syndrome advocate John Davidson earned star Robert Aramayo a BAFTA for Best Leading Actor earlier this year.

Danish animated children’s film Mumbo Jumbo debuted in 16th with CZK 140,000. The film, about a giant-sized hippo, features voice work by Lars Mikkelsen in its original version, but is screening locally only in a Czech dub.
