‘Family Pack 2: Renaissance’: Netflix werewolf sequel with Monica Bellucci now filming in Prague

Netflix is returning to Prague for another round of werewolf-themed adventure. Family Pack 2: Renaissance, the sequel to the French fantasy-comedy Family Pack, is now filming in the Czech capital, once again utilizing Barrandov Studio and locations across the city for production.

The new film follows the international success of the original movie, which was shot in Prague in 2023 and released globally on Netflix in 2024. While the sequel retains director and writer François Uzan and production company Radar Films, it introduces an entirely new cast led by Monica Bellucci and Jamel Debbouze, marking a shift toward an anthology-style franchise.

Werewolf production returns to Prague locations

Local production services for Family Pack 2: Renaissance are being coordinated by Prague-based Okko Production. As with the first film, the project is making use of facilities at Barrandov Studio, where large-scale historical sets can accommodate the film’s Renaissance setting.

In addition to studio work, production has also been visible on Prague streets in recent weeks. Filming has taken place in areas around Hradčanské náměstí near Prague Castle, where the city’s historic architecture provides a natural backdrop for a story set in early 16th-century Europe.

The sequel’s title reflects its new setting. Rather than returning to the late medieval period depicted in the first film, Family Pack 2: Renaissance transports its characters to the year 1515, during the reign of French King François I. According to Netflix France executive Pauline Dauvin, the franchise’s time-travel premise allows each installment to explore a different historical era while maintaining connections to the original board game concept.

The first Family Pack was based on the popular French social deduction game Les Loups-Garous de Thiercelieux, known internationally through various adaptations of the Werewolf and Mafia-style party game format. The film followed a family that becomes trapped inside a mysterious card game and transported to a medieval village where werewolves threaten the local population.

For the original production, Prague provided both studio facilities and authentic historical locations. Filming took place at Barrandov Studio‘s medieval village set, originally built for the television series Knightfall, as well as in Prague’s city center and several locations elsewhere in Czechia.

New cast signals anthology approach

The biggest change for the sequel is its entirely new cast. None of the principal actors from the first film will return, a move that confirms Netflix’s plans to transform Family Pack into an anthology franchise.

Monica Bellucci leads the cast alongside French comedian and actor Jamel Debbouze. They are joined by Fred Testot, Alexandra Roth, Alice Dufour, Alban Ivanov and Jonathan Lambert. Netflix has not yet revealed character details, but the casting reflects the company’s effort to attract some of France’s most recognizable screen talent.

According to comments previously made by Dauvin, the decision to introduce a new ensemble was part of a broader strategy to reinvent the franchise with each installment. By shifting historical periods and refreshing the cast, Netflix hopes to create a series of standalone adventures connected by the same time-traveling werewolf game concept.

The investment comes after the original Family Pack exceeded expectations on the streaming platform. Although reviews were mixed, the film found a substantial global audience, spending multiple weeks in Netflix’s worldwide Top 10 rankings and reaching viewers in dozens of countries.

For Prague’s film industry, the sequel represents another major international streaming production choosing the Czech capital as its primary base. The city’s combination of historic architecture, established studio infrastructure and experienced production crews continues to attract period projects from across Europe and beyond.

The new series joins an increasingly impressive roster of international productions filming in Prague in 2026. Major projects shooting in the Czech capital this year include Martin Scorsese’s What Happens at Night, starring Leonardo DiCaprio and Jennifer Lawrence, the fourth season of Foundation, Netflix’s The Age of Innocence, and the John le Carré adaptation Legacy of Spies.

A release date for Family Pack 2: Renaissance has not yet been announced, though filming is currently underway and the completed feature is expected to debut exclusively on Netflix.
