Family Pack (2024)

‘Family Pack’: Prague-shot werewolf movie with Jean Reno drops on Netflix this October

Family Pack, a new Netflix film based on the board game The Werewolves of Miller’s Hollow, has dropped a new trailer ahead of its worldwide release on the streaming platform on October 23. The new movie was filmed in and around Prague last summer under its French title Les Loups Garous de Thiercelieux, the name of the original game also called Werewolf in English.

Created by Philippe des Pallières and Hervé Marly, the board game Les Loups Garous de Thiercelieux assigns players different identities and tasks them with identifying the player(s) among them who have been assigned the role of the werewolf. Family Pack adds a Jumanji-like twist by incorporating the card game into its narrative.

“After discovering a mysterious card game, a family is thrust back in time to a medieval village where they must fend off dangerous werewolves each night,” reads the film’s official description from Netflix.

Family Pack stars Jean Reno (Mission: Impossible), Franck Dubosc (Rolling to You), Suzanne Clément (Laurence Anyways), Jonathan Lambert, Grégory Fitoussi (G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra). Bruno Gouery (Emily in Paris), Lisa Do Couto Texeira, Raphael Romand, and Alizée Caugnies.

The Netflix original film was directed by François Uzan, who wrote for the popular Netflix series Lupin and Prime Video’s Totems, which was also filmed in Prague.

“We could have put teenagers in a Scream-style house, or imagined a game of social massacre in a Haussmann living room… [but] we chose to make it an adventure and family film with humor and, of course, thrills,” director François Uzan told French newspaper Le Parisian during production in Prague last year. “We had to respect the philosophy of the game and we needed the green light from its inventors.”

In Prague, filming for Family Pack took place at Barrandov Studio, and made use of the expansive medieval village set that was originally constructed for Knightfall. Production also took place at locations in Prague’s city center. Outside of the Czech capital, Family Pack also shot in Drevníky, Zduchovice, and Výsluní u Chomutova.

The Werewolves of Miller’s Hollow was originally inspired by the 1980s Russian card game Mafia and has gained global popularity over the years, spawning numerous versions in different languages. Ultimate Werewolf and One Night Ultimate Werewolf, both designed by Ted Alspach and published by Bézier Games, became popular English-language variants in the late 2000s.

Family Pack is not the first film adaptation of the game. Previous adaptations include 2021’s Werewolves Within and the Japanese Werewolf Game series of films.

Family Pack will hit Netflix in locations worldwide from October 23.
