Filming is officially underway in Prague on the Netflix adaptation of Dan Brown‘s The Secret of Secrets, with the production taking over a series of prominent locations across the Czech capital’s historic center over the past several days.
Recent filming has taken place in Prague’s Old Town and Josefov neighborhoods, including around Jan Palach Square near the Rudolfinum and on Čechův most across the Vltava. On Wednesday, Sept. 2, production moved inside one of the city’s most distinctive landmarks, the Art Nouveau Municipal House (Obecní dům) at Náměstí Republiky.
The Municipal House shoot appeared to involve a substantial sequence. Production equipment filled the area outside the building throughout the day, while its two main dining venues were closed for filming. Firefighters were also present, with hoses deployed around the location; the setup indicated that pyrotechnics may have been used during the shoot.

‘The Secret of Secrets’ takes over central Prague
Principal photography for The Secrets of Secrets has officially begun, confirming Prague’s central role in Netflix’s approximately eight-hour adaptation. Areas in and around Old Town have been reserved for production vehicles over the past two weeks, with further activity scheduled through the city center early this month.
Unlike the many international productions that have used the Czech capital to double for other European cities, The Secret of Secrets is set substantially in Prague and is expected to feature the city as itself. That has already resulted in filming at some of the city’s most recognizable locations.
Wednesday’s shoot at Municipal House adds another major Prague landmark to the production. Completed in the early 20th century on the site of the former Royal Court, the ornate building is among the Czech capital’s best-known examples of Art Nouveau architecture and has frequently appeared in local and international productions.
The apparent use of pyrotechnics suggests that the location may be hosting more than a simple dialogue sequence, though details of what was filmed inside have not been disclosed.
Brown’s novel sends Harvard symbologist Robert Langdon through a Prague mystery involving scientist Katherine Solomon and her research into human consciousness. Other locations specifically featured in the book include Charles Bridge, the Klementinum and Petřín, though their use in the Netflix production has not been confirmed.
Morgan Spector takes over as Robert Langdon
Morgan Spector leads the new adaptation as Robert Langdon, becoming the third actor to portray Brown’s best-known character on screen. Spector, known for playing railroad magnate George Russell in HBO’s The Gilded Age, succeeds Tom Hanks, who starred as Langdon in three feature films directed by Ron Howard.
Netflix officially confirmed Spector’s casting in July. His real-life wife Rebecca Hall will play Katherine Solomon, Langdon’s scientist partner and the central figure whose disappearance drives the story, though Netflix has yet to formally announce her casting.
The series was created by Brown and Carlton Cuse, the veteran television writer and producer behind Lost, Bates Motel and Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan. Cuse serves as showrunner and writer, with Brown, Emma Forman and Zoe Robyn also executive producing.
Cuse has previously highlighted Prague as one of the elements that attracted him to the adaptation, describing The Secret of Secrets as “a propulsive thriller set in a fantastic location: Prague.” He has also said the eight-hour format will give the production greater scope to explore Brown’s combination of historical mysteries, science, spirituality and romance than the previous feature-film adaptations could accommodate.
Hanks played Langdon in The Da Vinci Code, Angels & Demons and Inferno, which collectively grossed more than $2 billion worldwide. Ashley Zukerman later portrayed a younger incarnation of the character in Peacock’s 2021 series The Lost Symbol.
Published in September 2025, The Secret of Secrets is Brown’s sixth Robert Langdon novel. Its close connection to Prague was emphasized from its launch, with Brown visiting the Czech capital to promote the book and its cover prominently featuring Charles Bridge.
Netflix has not announced a premiere date for the new series. But after months of development, casting and local preparations, cameras are now rolling, with Prague itself beginning to emerge as one of the production’s principal stars.
