The Super Mario Galaxy Movie maintained its top position at the Czech box office over the weekend, according to the latest data from the Czech Film Distributors’ Union. The animated sequel to 2023 megahit The Super Mario Bros. Movie fell 33.5 percent but earned CZK 6.88 million to bring its two-week total to CZK 19.75 million. While predominantly playing in Prague in a Czech-dubbed version, original English-language screenings can also be found at select cinemas.
Project Hail Mary stayed at number two, but is showcasing surprisingly strong legs and could regain the top spot next weekend given a light slate of new releases. The Ryan Gosling-led hard sci-fi story fell only 25.5 percent in its fourth week of release to take in CZK 5.39 million and bring its total earnings to a hefty CZK 40.19 million.
The Czech comedy Někdo to rád v Plzni (which translates as Some Like it Hot in Pilsen) fell 39.2 percent but maintained its position at third on the Czech charts, earning CZK 3.25 million to bring its two-week total to CZK 11.10 million. Miroslav Donutil, Marek Taclík, and Martin Pechlát lead the ensemble comedy about a group of diverse citizens in the Bohemian city.
The concert event BTS World Tour ‘Arirang’ in Goyang: Live Viewing charted fourth despite a single live screening in cinemas across the country on Friday, raking in CZK 1.86 million. The K-pop band will play another live concert broadcast to cinemas this upcoming Saturday, which can be expected to earn similar numbers.
Disney and Pixar’s Hoppers fell just 0.7 percent to chart fifth over the past weekend with CZK 1.63 million. The animated comedy about an animal lover who transfers her mind into a robotic beaver has now earned CZK 20.63 million over five weeks of release.
Among new releases, Ready or Not 2: Here I Come fared best CZK 1.34 million to come in seventh in the Czech charts. The horror-comedy sequel to the surprise 2019 hit from Radio Silence stars Samara Weaving as a new bride hunted by a Satanic family cult.
Ukrainian family film Mavka: The True Myth, a sequel to one of the country’s biggest international hits, took in CZK 591,000 to chart eighth. 2023’s Mavka: The Forest Song saw theatrical release in more than 140 countries across the globe, including an English dub; locally, the sequel is screening in both Ukrainian and Czech-dubbed versions.
Last Routine (Šampión), a biopic on Slovak figure skater Ondrej Nepela, charted 11th with CZK 347,000 in its first week of release. The film was beat to cinemas by Nepela, a competing biopic that released to local cinemas last fall.
