Later this week, director Steven Spielberg’s highly-anticipated Ready Player One will hit cinemas in Prague.
And just a few days ago, Spielberg announced that he would begin filming the long-awaited fifth installment in his Indiana Jones franchise, starring Harrison Ford, in April of next year eyeing a July 2020 release date.
That’s good timing for the Czech National Symphony Orchestra (ČNSO), who have a special Indiana Jones-themed evening lined up next week.
On Tuesday, April 3, the ČNSO will be performing John Williams’ classic score to the first Indiana Jones movie during a very special screening of Raiders of the Lost Ark accompanied by live music.
Live-scored screenings have become popular in Prague over the past few years, with classics like The Godfather, The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring, and Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone recently coming to the city.
But the Raiders of the Lost Ark screening will be performed by one of the top-rated cinematic orchestras in the world. Legendary composer Ennio Morricone conducted the Czech National Symphony Orchestra for his scores for Tornatore’s The Best Offer (which was also partially shot in Prague) and Tarantino’s The Hateful Eight, among numerous other film contributions.
It will also take place in one of Prague’s most historic venues, the Municipal House at náměstí Republiky.
Prague won’t be the only city to screen Raiders of the Lost Ark with a live performance from the Czech National Symphony Orchestra. The orchestra will take the show on the road later this year during an international tour that will see numerous dates throughout the UK in September.
And this isn’t the first time the orchestra has performed classics from John Williams. Last year, the Czech National Symphony Orchestra performed other music from the Oscar-winning composer as part of the Prague Proms festival, which included this piece from Saving Private Ryan:
The screening of Raiders of the Lost Ark accompanied by live music from the Czech National Symphony Orchestra will take place on Tuesday, April 3 from 19:00 at Prague’s historic Obecní dům (Municipal House). Tickets run from 800 – 1400 CZK and can be purchased online from the ČNSO website.
