Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey stormed into Czech cinemas with the biggest opening weekend of the year, according to the latest figures from the Czech Film Distributors’ Union. The epic adaptation earned a massive CZK 25.4 million in its debut, comfortably surpassing the CZK 18.2 million opening of The Devil Wears Prada 2 to become 2026’s biggest launch. It also marks the strongest opening weekend in Czechia since Avatar: Fire and Ash debuted with more than CZK 40 million last December.
Minions and Monsters continues its excellent run in second place, rising an unexpected 15.9 percent in its third weekend to gross CZK 6.19 million. The family hit has now amassed more than CZK 43.4 million, proving one of the strongest performers of the summer despite stiff new competition.
Moana, meanwhile, continues to underperform after its soft debut. The animated adventure fell 20.8 percent in its second weekend to third place with CZK 4.12 million, bringing its total to CZK 12.4 million. The muted performance mirrors the film’s disappointing international box office results.
Toy Story 5 continued to display staying power, climbing nearly 20 percent in its fifth weekend despite stiff competition from other family films. Pixar’s sequel earned CZK 2.47 million to lift its total to CZK 28.9 million, remaining one of the summer’s most durable family releases.
Rounding out the top five, Obsession continues one of the year’s most impressive theatrical runs. Nearly two months after opening, Curry Barker’s horror hit remained in the top five, dipping just 5.9 percent to earn CZK 1.5 million. Its cumulative Czech gross now stands at more than CZK 31 million.
Among the weekend’s other new releases, Czech-Slovak drama Only Beautiful Things to Look At (Pramen) debuted in 11th place following its Karlovy Vary International Film Festival premiere. Starring Anna Geislerová, the film explores the forced sterilization of Romani women in communist Czechoslovakia through the story of a doctor who begins questioning the system she has long served.
The new Czech comedy Bardotky landed in 19th place through preview screenings ahead of its nationwide release next weekend. The film stars Pavlína Pořízková in her first major Czech-language feature alongside Dagmar Havlová and Eva Holubová, following three lifelong friends who rediscover adventure, and long-buried secrets, later in life.
