Orlando Bloom praises Czech beer in new promo for Prague brewery Staropramen

Hollywood star Orlando Bloom was announced as the new brand ambassador for Prague brewery Staropramen last week, and now the actor has appeared in his first promo advertisement for the Czech brand. Staropramen uploaded the 1:15 spot featuring Bloom to their official YouTube channel yesterday.

The spot will run on TV, social media, and other formats in the United Kingdom and other European markets where Staropramen is exported this summer. It features Bloom among some of Prague’s most famous landmarks and inside the Staropramen brewery in the city’s Smíchov district.

In the advert, Bloom recalls how he has become an expert on Prague as well as Czech beer after spending a considerable amount of time filming in the Czech capital. The actor spent the better part of five years living in Prague during the filming of Carnival Row.

“With all the filming I do here, I’ve become an expert on Prague,” Bloom says under the city’s Astronomical Clock, one of the Czech capital’s most recognizable landmarks, as the promo opens.

“For example, I know why they call it the Golden City,” he adds while a waiter pours a glass of Starpramen at a restaurant next to Charles Bridge, hinting the nickname comes from its beer. “Obvious, right?”

“I’ve uncovered the secrets of their delicious food,” Bloom says at an unspecified restaurant. The actor previously told The Telegraph that Prague’s La Finestra was his favorite restaurant.

“And I’ve learned that the people here are pretty demanding about their beer,” Bloom says while patrons inspect their beer at Prague bars, bursting out of a Staropramen crate to hand them a fresh pour.

“There’s one thing I can’t figure figure out, though,” he adds while crashing through the floor of the Prague 5 brewery itself. “How does Staropramen craft an exquisitely balanced beer?”

“Well, we’ll get there,” he closes as the spot wraps up back under the Astronomical Clock.

While major American beer brands have recently drawn controversy for working with brand ambassadors, Bloom is a natural fit for Staropramen. The Czech Republic may have more popular beers on the domestic market, but Staropramen is the largest brewery in Prague, and the actor has become especially familiar with the Czech capital over the past half-decade.

“I fell in love with Prague when I lived and worked there for a few years,” Bloom recalled in an earlier press release for Staropramen.

‘It’s a wonderful city filled with amazing people, but they’re a tough crowd to please when it comes to beer. Staropramen has been catering to this discerning audience for well over a century, which tells you just how good it is.”
