Minions & Monsters (2026)

Czech box office June 2-5: ‘Minions & Monsters’ dominates in debut weekend

Minions & Monsters continued its strong run at the Czech box office over the weekend, according to the latest figures from the Czech Film Distributors’ Union. Universal’s animated sequel added CZK 10.93 million in its official debut weekend to bring its total to CZK 23.08 million after a week of preview screenings.

Toy Story 5 held on to second place in its third week of release and continues to post solid numbers, though Minions & Monsters has already surpassed its total. Disney and Pixar’s latest sequel fell 35.3 percent to earn CZK 3.62 million, lifting its three-week earnings to CZK 20.68 million.

Czech comedy Po večerce (which translates to After Dinner) held onto third place in its first official weekend of nationwide release following two weeks of preview screenings. Director Dan Pánek’s latest feature fell just 17.5 percent to gross CZK 2.43 million, bringing its cumulative total to CZK 8.15 million.

Horror thriller Obsession continues its remarkable run in Czechia, climbing to fourth after another increase in box office tallies. Curry Barker’s low-budget hit rose 14.1 percent to earn CZK 2.37 million, pushing its six-week total to CZK 25.37 million. The film has now overtaken both Disclosure Day and Backrooms in cumulative admissions despite opening behind both titles, making it one of Czech cinemas’ biggest sleeper hits of the year.

Scary Movie rounded out the top five with another impressive hold. The Wayans family’s long-awaited return to the franchise actually edged up 1.4 percent from last weekend, earning CZK 2.21 million and bringing its five-week total to CZK 36.45 million. The comedy has proven unusually resilient in Czech cinemas, where Hollywood comedies have often struggled to find large audiences.

Supergirl continues to burn out at the Czech box office, landing in at 11th this weekend after debuting in 7th last week. The latest DC Studios release fell a massive 64.4 percent, earning just CZK 508,000 to bring its two-week total to CZK 2.72 million.

Among new releases, Olivia Wilde‘s chamber comedy-drama The Invite debuted in 10th place with a light CZK 612,000 despite solid reviews worldwide. The Sundance hit stars the director alongside Seth Rogen, Edward Norton, and Penélope Cruz.

French comedy Ooh La La 2 (Cocorico 2) also opened quietly, taking just CZK 151,000 to finish 16th during its first weekend in Czech cinemas. Writer-director Julien Hervé’s sequel to his 2024 hit stars Christian Clavier, Didier Bourdon, and Sylvie Testud in a continuing saga of DNA tests revealing unexpected family connections.
