Zootopia 2 (2025)

Czech box office, Dec. 11-14: ‘Zootopia 2’ maintains hold at the top of the charts

Zootopia 2 added another CZK 15.3 million to maintain its position at the top of the Czech box office charts over the weekend, according to the latest data from the Union of Film Distributors. The Disney sequel fell just 12 percent in its third weekend of release to bring its three-week total to a hefty CZK 62.6 million ($3.06 million).

For the second straight weekend, Five Nights at Freddy’s 2 finished behind the animated behemoth, despite a 44.4 percent drop. The horror sequel based on the video game series earned CZK 4.72 million to bring its two-week total to CZK 14.89 million.

In a light weekend for new releases, two Czech titles held their position in the top five, with mountain rescue rom-com Na horách finishing third with CZK 2.39 million and para hockey drama Invincibles (Neporazitelní) landing fourth with CZK 1.39 million. Hollywood sequel Now You See Me: Now You Don’t rounded out the top five.

No new releases finished in the top 10, with The King of Kings, a South Korean-produced animated film loosely adapted from The Life of Our Lord by Charles Dickens, faring best in 12th with CZK 218,000. The film, which tells the story of the life of Jesus Christ, did big business when it opened in the States earlier this year but is screening locally only in a Czech-dubbed version.

Czech comedy Diary of a Shopaholic (Deník shopaholičky), from notorious filmmaker Eva Toulová, came in 15th, earning CZK 190,000. Czechia’s version of Ed Wood (or Uwe Boll) has made four theatrically-released films over the past two years, all of which rank in ČSFD’s list of the worst 250 films ever made.

French drama The Great Arch, which stars Claes Bang as Johan Otto von Spreckelsen, the Danish architect behind Paris’ Grande Arche, debuted in 17th with CZK 154,000.

Dust Bunny, a fantasy from Bryan Fuller (creator of TV’s Hannibal) starring Sigourney Weaver and Mads Mikkelsen, bombed at the Czech box office over the weekend, earning just CZK 109,000 to finish 19th (a few thousand more than F1 in its 25th weekend of release). The film is screening locally only in a Czech-dubbed version.
