Tron: Ares (2025)

Czech box office Oct. 9-12: ‘Tron: Ares’ edges ‘Gabby’s Dollhouse’ for top spot

Tron: Ares took the top spot at the Czech box office during its debut over the past weekend with a light CZK 3 million, according to data from Czechia’s Union of Film Distributors. The Disney legacy sequel starring Jared Leto, Greta Lee, and Evan Peters disappointed at the worldwide box office over the weekend, and its total in the Czech Republic followed the trend, though none of the Tron films have been considered box office hits.

The Tron sequel only barely squeezed by the third weekend of Gabby’s Dollhouse: The Movie, which took in CZK 2.60 million in second place to bring its total to CZK 14.17 million ($670,000). The big-screen adaptation of the popular Netflix series, which stars Gloria Estefan and Kristen Wiig alongside lead Laila Lockhart Kraner, is screening locally in a Czech-dubbed version.

Paul Thomas Anderson‘s One Battle After Another continues to show strong legs with a 20.7 percent drop in its third week of release, taking in CZK 1.96 million in second place to bring its three-week total to CZK 11.16 million ($530,000). Strong reviews and word-of-mouth could see the Leonardo DiCaprio thriller linger into the awards season, where it should pick up even more steam.

The horror sequel The Conjuring: Last Rites continues to impress at the Czech box office, coming in fourth this weekend with CZK 1.46 million to pad a hefty five-week total of CZK 46.36 million ($2.21 million). The release of The Black Phone 2 later this week should challenge its position as top horror film in Czech cinemas. Also holding strong is Czech-German-Polish Kafka biopic Franz, which maintained its fifth spot at the Czech box office with CZK 980,000 to bring its three-week total to CZK 6.92 million ($330,000).

Among new releases, the Gillian Anderson-Jason Isaacs drama The Salt Path fared surprisingly well despite debuting on Czech screens six months after bowing in the UK, taking in CZK 875,000 to finish seventh. Roofman, a touching drama starring Channing Tatum as a real-life US criminal, debuted in ninth with CZK 624,000.

Websterovi: Příběhy na pavoučím vlákně (The Websters: Stories on a Spider’s Thread), a sequel to the 2022 Czech animated film The Websters, opened in eighth with CZK 815,000, while the Czech medieval fantasy film Fichtelberg debuted with a disappointing CZK 386,000 to come in 13th. The Japanese psychological horror film Exit 8, based on the 2023 video game of the same name, earned CZK 193,000 in limited release to come in 18th.
