‘Spaceman’, starring Adam Sandler and Carey Mulligan, now shooting in Prague

Spaceman, a new Netflix film adaptation of the novel Spaceman of Bohemia by Czech writer Jaroslav Kalfař starring Adam Sandler and Carey Mulligan, is now shooting in Prague. Production on the film has recently been taking place in areas around Prague 1 and Prague 8.

Filming for Spaceman has also recently taken place in Bernartice, a small town near Písek. A wooden house was constructed in the area and set aflame under the supervision of local firefighters over the weekend. This week, shooting is also taking place in Mariánské Lázně.

Prague production company Stillking Films is coordinating the local shoot.

Sandler has been spotted at locations around Prague and other areas of the Czech Republic over the past two weeks, and appeared alongside local fans in photos posted to social media.

Spaceman stars Sandler as Jakub Procházka in a fictional story about the first astronaut to take off from the independent Czech Republic. Mulligan will play his wife, Lenka, who Jakub slowly loses contact with during a lengthy journey through space.

Paul Dano (There Will Be Blood) and Kunal Nayyar (The Big Bang Theory) have also joined the Spaceman cast in unspecified roles.

Spaceman is being directed by Johan Renck (HBO’s Chernobyl), from a screenplay by Colby Day, adapting the original novel from Kalfař.

The Adam SandlerCarey Mulligan project is one of many high-profile film and TV projects shooting in Prague this summer.

The Gray Man, a new action thriller starring Ryan Gosling and Chris Evans and the most expensive Netflix production to date, will begin shooting in Prague from next week.

Production on the second seasons of Amazon’s Carnival Row and The Wheel of Time, both of which are among the most expensive international projects to shoot in the Czech Republic, is also taking place in locations in and around Prague over the upcoming months.

The French TV series Totems is also currently shooting in Prague, and a new adaptation of Dangerous Liaisons continues its shoot across locations throughout the Czech Republic. Both shows are also Amazon productions.
