Summer cinema season is in full swing in Prague, with more than a dozen open-air venues setting up shop in the Czech capital through the end of June; if you missed my full roundup of 2018 summer cinemas in Prague, check it out here.
The latest summer cinema to debut in 2018 is Letní Kino Kamínka, which continues a yearly tradition in Lesopark Borovičky in Zbraslav, Prague 5.
Tonight, June 7, Letní Kino Kamínka kicks off their 2018 summer cinema season with a screening of the hit comedy The Big Sick, which had its Czech debut at last year’s Karlovy Vary International Film Festival and scored husband and wife writing team Kumail Nanjiani & Emily V. Gordon an Oscar nomination for Best Original Screenplay.
Every Thursday throughout the summer season, Letní Kino Kamínka will unveil a new feature, with Ondřej Havelka’s new Czech drama Hastrman and Armando Iannucci’s bitterly dark Soviet satire The Death of Stalin up next on the docket.
On Thursday, June 26, the cinema will screen the wonderful Czech nature documentary Planeta Česko (Wilder Than Wilderness in English); if you haven’t had a chance to see it yet, summer cinema in a Prague park setting makes for a great opportunity to catch this local wildlife-themed film.
Movies at Letní Kino Kamínka kick off at dusk (21:30 unless otherwise noted) and cost 100 CZK – among the more expensive summer cinema tickets, but still half the price of the multiplex.
Here’s the full Letní Kino Kamínka schedule for June:
June 7: The Big Sick
June 14: Hastrman
June 21: The Death of Stalin
June 28: Planeta Česko
Letní Kino Kamínka is not only a cinema venue, but will also open up its stage to concert performances throughout the summer. The first of those will be the local Czech band Sun + Dead on Tuesday, June 26 (concerts at the venue go for 150 CZK).
