New Terrence Malick Film to Premiere in Brno Observatory and Planetarium

Hailed by the The New York Times’ A. O. Scott as a “fusion of digital imagery and photographic imagination that seems at once utterly natural and completely impossible,” director Terrence Malick’s latest film comes with a certain pedigree.

Voyage of Time: Life’s Journey – the title can be taken literally – is the director’s return to the kind of time-traversing, universe-expanding ideas glimpsed in 2013 at the beginning of Tree of Life, during a prologue that spanned hundreds millions of years.

Unlike his recent spate of experimental dramas with major Hollywood stars (To the Wonder, Song of Songs, and Knight of Cups), Voyage of Time is something that the director that Malick has been working on for decades; he first conceived it after finishing Days of Heaven in 1978, before taking twenty years to complete his next project, The Thin Red Line, in 1998.

Released in a 40-minute IMAX version in the US last year with narration by Brad Pitt, Voyage of Time: Life’s Journey was subsequently re-edited into a feature-length film (with new narration by Cate Blanchett) for the Venice Film Festival.

It’s this 90-minute version of the film that will open in cinemas across the Czech Republic from August 31.

But for those in Brno, distributors Be2Can have a little something special in store: this interplanetary feature will premiere at the Brno Observatory and Planetarium for two very special screenings on September 1st and 2nd.

One of the top science centers in the Czech Republic, the Brno Observatory and Planetarium was opened in 1954 but underwent a 100 million crown renovation in 2010 that brought state-of-the-art equipment to the premises.

For those in Prague, Voyage of Time: Life’s Journey will, unfortunately, not be screening at the city’s iconic Planetarium in Prague 7.

However, you can catch the premiere of the new Malick movie a day before those in Brno when it has its official premiere on August 31 at Kino Lucerna.
