Two years ago winter, popular Czech ski resort Skiareál Špindlerův Mlýn unveiled a Ledárium, or Ice Palace, an igloo-like dome atop one of the resort’s mountains that housed a unique display of ice sculptures.
Open throughout the winter months, last year’s ice palace exhibition – featuring various nature-themed sculptures inspired by Vivaldi’s The Four Seasons – were a big hit, as 44 tons of ice sculptures proved to be a popular stop for skiers on the slopes of Špindlerův Mlýn and other visitors.
This year, the resort has something extra special for film fans: ice sculptures designed after characters and elements from the Star Wars film franchise, to coincide with the recently-released The Last Jedi.
Jedi, droids, sith lords and other Star Wars fan favorites from the franchise are being carefully sculpted by ice artists from across Europe in advance of the debut next week.
Photos of this year’s Star Wars ice sculptures have yet to be released, but you can see pics of last year’s exhibit in this iDnes.cz photo gallery.
The Ledárium will open from next Saturday, on December 23, through the winter months and into March. Entry will be permitted daily from 11:00 – 15:30.
Entry to the Ledárium is free of charge, though you’ll need to take a ski lift to the top station of the Svatý Petr peak to reach it. Discounted return tickets for non-skiers just visiting the Ledárium will also be available.
