Czech box office Aug. 6-9: ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ sticks to the top, ‘The Odyssey’ holds strong

Spider-Man: Brand New Day remained firmly in first place at the Czech box office over the weekend, according to the latest figures from the Czech Film Distributors’ Union. The Marvel blockbuster starring Tom Holland earned CZK 25.83 million in its second weekend, a 41.5 percent drop from its record-setting debut. With previews included, the film has now grossed CZK 100.63 million in Czech cinemas and attracted more than 463,000 admissions.

Christopher Nolan‘s The Odyssey held onto second place with another strong weekend, taking CZK 10.69 million for a relatively modest 26.8 percent decline. The epic has now passed CZK 105 million locally after four weeks, with more than 435,000 admissions, putting it firmly among the biggest films of 2026 in Czechia. It reamins ahead of Spider-Man: Brand New Day in cumulative gross, though the Marvel film will pass it next week.

PAW Patrol: The Dino Movie was the weekend’s biggest new release, opening in third place with CZK 7.58 million from 43,652 admissions. The latest big-screen adventure for the popular canine rescue team sends Chase, Marshall, Skye and the rest of the gang to a mysterious island inhabited by dinosaurs. In Prague, the animated film is screening only in a Czech dub.

Czech comedy 6 Grams jumped into fourth place, earning CZK 4.01 million in its first week of regular release. The film centers on four fathers summoned to a high school after a suspicious packet of white powder is discovered during their sons’ ski trip.

Minions and Monsters rounded out the top five with CZK 1.53 million, down 36.7 percent in its sixth weekend. The animated Universal release has now crossed CZK 57 million in Czechia and attracted more than 300,000 admissions, continuing to rank among the summer’s biggest family hits despite increasingly steep weekly declines.

The Czech MMA drama The Cursed Warrior (Bojovník) took 14th place with CZK 262,000 from preview screenings ahead of its official Aug. 13 release. The film follows former European boxing champion and Olympic medalist Pavel Hoffmeister, who accepts an unexpected challenge to return to competition: this time in MMA.

Pedro Almodóvar‘s Bitter Christmas also appeared in the top 20 following preview screenings, earning CZK 143,000 in its first week. Almodóvar’s latest film blends his familiar focus on complicated women, vivid Spanish settings and questions about the boundaries between artistic inspiration and private life.

Czech comedy Chica Checa earned CZK 86,000 in limited preview screenings to reach 19th place ahead of its Aug. 20 wide release. The film stars Pavla Tomicová as a rural postal worker whose life is disrupted when her son returns from France and reveals that he is gay and works as a successful drag queen.
