The Super Mario Galaxy Movie (2026)

Czech box office April 2-5: ‘The Super Mario Galaxy Movie’ jumps past ‘Project Hail Mary’

The Super Mario Galaxy Movie leapt into first place at the Czech box office over the past weekend, according to the latest data from the Czech Film Distributors Union. The animated sequel to 2023 megahit The Super Mario Bros. Movie earned CZK 10.15 million in its first week of release; while predominately playing in Prague in a Czech-dubbed versions, original English-language screenings can also be found at select cinemas.

The Mario sequel unseated 2026’s first box office blockbuster, Project Hail Mary, which held the top spot over the previous two weekends. Still, the Ryan Gosling-led hard sci-fi story provided tough competition, falling only 18 percent in its third week of release to take in CZK 7.23 million and bring its total earnings to a hefty CZK 32.74 million.

The Czech comedy Někdo to rád v Plzni (which translates as Some Like it Hot in Pilsen) debuted strong with CZK 5.34 million to finish third after topping CZK 1 million in preview screenings the previous weekend. Miroslav Donutil, Marek Taclík, and Martin Pechlát lead the ensemble comedy about a group of diverse citizens in the Bohemian city.

The release of the Mario movie took a larger chunk of business away from other animated films at the Czech box office, including Hoppers, which fell 48 percent to chart third over the past weekend. The animated comedy about an animal lover who transfers her mind into a robotic beaver has now earned CZK 18.47 million over four weeks of release.

The Drama debuted in fifth place over the weekend with CZK 1.35 million, totaling CZK 1.90 million after Wednesday preview screenings. Robert Pattinson and Zendaya star in the dark, and often quite funny, social satire from director Kristoffer Borgli.

After 19 weeks of release, Zootopia 2 took its first major tumble in the wake of The Super Mario Galaxy Movie‘s release, falling 56.1 percent to earn CZK 482,000. The Disney sequel has now grossed a massive CZK 168.61 million at Czech cinemas, but its run is nearing an end.
