A German remake of the acclaimed Czech TV series Most! is in the works, with Berlin-based SKP Entertainment acquiring exclusive adaptation rights. The company, known for its previous successful adaptation of Spain’s Poquita Fe into the German series Die Stinos, plans to reimagine the Czech show for a German-speaking audience.
Most!—created by Czech writer Petr Kolečko and directed by Jan Prušinovský (The Snake Brothers)—premiered in 2019 on Czech Television and became one of the country’s most-watched series. Set in the industrial town of Most, near the German border, the show blended dark humor with sharp social commentary, drawing an average of 2.5 million viewers per episode in a country of 11 million.
A Czech hit with a universal message
Most! tells the story of Luděk (played by Martin Hofmann), a divorced, unemployed man stuck in a small, struggling town. His life takes an unexpected turn when his estranged sibling reappears—now living as Dáša (Erika Stárková), a transgender woman.
The show’s mix of gritty realism, black humor, and human drama resonated strongly with Czech audiences, tackling topics such as identity, community, and social change in a region marked by economic hardship. Despite only running for a single season, it remains one of the the most popular Czech TV series over the past decade.
For SKP Entertainment, this combination of local flavor and universal themes made Most! an ideal candidate for adaptation. SKP producer Alexander Keil, along with showrunner Stefan Stuckmann, will lead the German version’s development, aiming to retain the spirit of the original while adapting its setting and cultural context for a German audience.
“Most! shows, with heart and raw humor, how relevant and entertaining social issues can be portrayed,” Keil said through a press release. “The conflicts and desires of people in Most are the same as those in the Palatinate, Saxony, the Ruhr, or rural Bavaria.”
Regional stories with global appeal
SKP’s move to adapt Most! follows its successful German remake of Poquita Fe—a Spanish comedy known for its regional specificity—which premiered on the Joyn streaming platform as Die Stinos. That experience, according to Keil, showed how stories deeply rooted in local cultures can also connect with audiences abroad.
“Provinces differ in name, but the stories are often the same,” said Keil, pointing to Most!’s potential resonance in various German regions.
While no release date or cast has been announced yet, SKP is expected to develop an original German script inspired by Most!’s blend of offbeat characters, rough humor, and underlying humanity.
For German audiences, the upcoming adaptation of Most! will offer a new lens on familiar issues—such as social alienation, small-town dynamics, and family tensions. And for Czech creators, the international interest in Most! marks another milestone in the growing visibility of Czech television abroad.
