Czech Film Commission nominated for Best Film Commission at 2024 Global Production Awards

The Czech Republic’s film commission has been getting some worldwide recognition in recent years. After being nominated for Outstanding Film Commission at last year’s Location Managers Guild Awards, the Czech Film Commission has been shortlisted for the Film Commission Award at this year’s Global Production Awards.

The Czech Film Commission will compete with Spain’s Andalucía Film Commission, Saudi Arabia’s Film AlUla, and the Cherokee Film Commission in the United States for the 2024 Film Commission Award, which will be handed out during the Global Production Awards ceremony at this year’s Cannes Film Festival on May 20.

Last year’s Location Managers Guild Awards cited the Czech Film Commission for their work on the Netflix blockbuster The Gray Man (the Alberta Film Commission ultimately won for their work on The Last of Us), but this year’s Global Production Awards didn’t specify a particular production.

Recently-released films supported by the Czech Film Commission include the Adam Sandler drama Spaceman and the Turkish action film The Art of Love, which both released on Netflix earlier this year, as well as the action sequel Extraction II, which premiered on the streaming platform last summer.

Major films that worked with the Czech Film Commission releasing later this year include The Crow, which has just been pushed back to August, and Robert Eggers’ Nosferatu, due out on Christmas. The recently-retitled John Wick Presents: Ballerina, which shot in Prague and other locations last winter, is targeting an early 2025 release.

The Czech Film Commission has also been involved in major TV productions that have shot in the Czech capital in recent years, including the second season of Interview with the Vampire, which will premiere next month, the second and third seasons of Foundation, and the first three seasons of The Wheel of Time.

The Global Production Awards focus on recognizing achievements in the production and location work involved in bringing films and TV shows to fruition. They specifically highlight contributions made by production sets, locations, and studios in translating scripts and storyboards into on-screen reality.

The awards seek to identify the best locations globally, commend standout studios, acknowledge exceptional creative crews, and honor innovative ideas and executions that contribute to successful productions, as well as recognize the initiatives, projects, and work that establish high standards in sustainability, diversity, and the promotion of local economies benefitting from film productions.

In addition to the Film Commission Award, the Global Production Awards also include awards dedicated to City of Film (Tulsa, Zagreb, Bristol, Limerick, and Sofia have made this year’s nominations), Emerging Location, Community Impact, Diversity & Inclusion, Location of the Year, Studio of the Year, and other categories.

A full list of this year’s nominations can be found at the official Global Production Awards website.
