Legendary actress Joan Collins is headed to Prague next month to film her latest movie, Murder Between Friends, reports soap source Michael Fairman TV. The Agatha Christie-like murder mystery is slated to begin production from April 1, according to director and star Jacob Young, best known for long-running roles on The Bold and the Beautiful and All My Children.
“I’m flying at the end of the March to Prague to direct, produce and star in a film with Joan Collins,” Young told Michael Fairman TV. “Nadia Bjorlin is in it, and Toby Alexander Smith from Eastenders. Plus, a couple of my Broadway friends and a very well-known Czech actress [Hana Vagnerová].”
“It’s very Agatha Christie, sort of Knives Out without having a hundred million dollars to shoot it, but still will be a lovely film nonetheless.”
Collins, now 90, headlined major Hollywood productions in the 1950s such as Land of the Pharaohs for director Howard Hawks, The Virgin Queen alongside Bette Davis, and The Bravados opposite Gregory Peck. But she’s probably best remembered today for her long-running role on Dynasty in the 1980s. More recently, Collins made a memorable appearance on American Horror Story.
In addition to Collins and director-star Young, Murder Between Friends features a cast culled from soaps around the world. Bjorlin is a longtime stalwart on Days of Our Lives, and Smith featured in UK soap EastEnders. Vagnerová rose to local fame through her role in the Czech series Vyprávej (Wonderful Times), and recently drew praise for her role in the 2022 drama Hranice lásky (Borders of Love).
IMDb also lists Jim Borstelmann (The Producers on Broadway) and Norwegian actor and Instagram influencer Espen Hatleskog among the cast for Murder Between Friends. Trent Garrett is listed as a co-director on the film, from a script by Mark Rozzano.
Prague locations for Murder Between Friends have yet to be revealed, but one can imagine this kind of production taking advantage of a chateau in the Czech countryside.
“A legendary TV star solves a murder mystery at her country estate,” reads the one-line synopsis. Collins presumably has the lead role as the impromptu sleuth.
According to Young, Murder Between Friends will shoot in the Czech Republic for about 2.5 weeks, from April 1 through April 17.
