Shortly after AMC Networks reached a waiver agreement to continue production on Interview with the Vampire despite the ongoing SAG-AFTRA strike, a tentative date for production to resume has been revealed. Going by local casting announcements, Interview with the Vampire will resume its Prague shoot as of October 2.
Interview with the Vampire has roughly six weeks (33 shooting days) left on its schedule in Prague, meaning filming should wrap up by mid-November. That should give the production enough time to shoot at exterior locations without the weather (i.e. snow) resulting in complications.
Given that the series primarily filmed exteriors during the night hours (as most of its characters are sun-averse vampires), the shorter daylight hours during the fall will give the production even more time to complete its nightly exterior shoots.
Extras for upcoming scenes will be sourced by local casting agency Extrafilms. Those that took part in a still-be-be completed theater sequence will be contacted in the upcoming weeks to secure their participation when filming resumes and ensure the shoot avoids any continuity issues.
Interview with the Vampire is adapted from the same Anne Rice novel that spawned a 1994 film starring Tom Cruise and Brad Pitt. Season 2 began filming in Prague in April 2023 after shooting its first in New Orleans. The Czech capital is playing WWII-era Paris in the series, among other locales.
The series takes place across a number of different eras, with vampire Louis de Pointe du Lac (Jacob Anderson) recounting his story to journalist Daniel Molloy (Eric Bogosian) for the titular interview. He tells him of his relationship with Lestat de Lioncourt (Sam Reid), spanning New Orleans in the 1910s to Paris in the 1940s.
The series also stars Delainey Hayles, Ben Daniels, and Assad Zaman, among others returning from the first season and new to the second.
In the Czech capital, Interview with the Vampire has shot at Prague’s Barrandov Studio along with locations in the city center that include areas near Prague Castle, Old Town Square, and the historic Estates Theatre.
Until the SAG-AFTRA strike is resolved, Interview with the Vampire is likely to be one of the few major productions to shoot in Prague. The Wheel of Time, which just debuted is second season on Amazon Prime Video, has continued to shoot its third season, but production on Apple TV+’s Foundation has been indefinitely halted.
Other major projects expected to film in Prague this fall have also been postponed. Smaller productions shooting in the Czech capital this month include the second season of Netflix’s The Empress and the long-running German-language detective series Money Murder Zurich (Der Zürich-Krimi).
