‘Interview with the Vampire’ shooting by Prague Castle this weekend

The second season of AMC’s Interview with the Vampire is currently shooting in Prague’s city center after filming in the Czech capital’s Barrandov Studio over the past two months. Filming is now taking place in locations adjacent to Old Town Square, with production moving to areas of Hradčany by Prague Castle heading into the weekend.

Specifically, areas of Loretánské náměstí and Hradčanské náměstí, in front of Prague Castle’s main gate, have been reserved for production equipment for Interview with the Vampire from June 1 through June 3. Judging by the location, the shoot is likely to be at least partially outdoors in these spacious Prague squares.

Currently, scenes for Interview with the Vampire are shooting at and around Prague’s landmark House at the Golden Ring across from the Church of Our Lady Before Týn on Týnská street. The location has been transformed into a WWII-era ‘Theatre des Vampires’ for the production, with filming taking place during the night hours. Both interiors and exteriors are being captured around the location.

When not being utilized as a film set, the House of the Golden Ring is otherwise operated as a museum by Prague City Museum. The distinctive medieval structure, which dates back to the early 1600s, can be explored throughout the year for an entrance fee of 180 crowns (about $8).

Separately, but also nearby, the upper portion of Prague’s high-end Pařížská street leading up to Old Town Square has also been reserved for production of Interview with the Vampire through June 3. The street, named after the French capital, is a fitting location for the series, in which Prague is playing WWII-era Paris.

From June 1, areas near Prague Castle at Loretánské náměstí have been reserved for Interview with the Vampire, with the heavily tourist-trafficked Hradčanské náměstí reserved from the following day. If the shoot follows the same schedule as the Old Town locations, filming can be expected to take place during the night hours on June 2.

Based on the Anne Rice novel that was previously turned into a 1994 film starring Tom Cruise and Brad Pitt, Interview with the Vampire stars Sam Reid as the vampire Lestat de Lioncourt and Jacob Anderson as Louis de Pointe du Lac. Delainey Hayles, Eric Bogosian, Assad Zaman, and Ben Daniels also feature among the main cast for season 2.

Interview with the Vampire is one of three major TV series shooting in Prague this summer, with the third season of Amazon Studios’ The Wheel of Time shooting at Jordan Studios Letňany and production of the third season of Apple TV+’s Foundation also now underway.

It’s also the second major vampire production to be filmed in Prague this year, with filming for Robert Eggers‘ Nosferatu, starring Bill SkarsgårdLily-Rose DeppNicolas Hoult, and Willem Dafoe, wrapping last week after a three-month shoot.
