Billy Bob Thornton and the Trailer Park Boys are coming to Prague this weekend

American actor Billy Bob Thornton is coming to Prague this weekend, but not (necessarily) to shoot a new movie. The star will perform with his band The Boxmasters at Futurum Music Bar on June 16. Thornton is the second Oscar winner to perform on stage in the Czech Republic in recent weeks after Russell Crowe and his Indoor Garden Party opened the Karlovy Vary film fest last weekend.

Support for Thorton’s band will be provided by the stars of popular Canadian mockumentary series Trailer Park Boys, in the form of the fictional band from the TV show, Bubbles & the Sh!trockers. The band consists of lead singer Bubbles (Mike Smith), who has been supported in the past by Sebastian Bach, Alex Lifeson from Rush, and Tom Wilson from Blackie & The Rodeo Kings.

Here’s where things get fun: the Trailer Park Boys are currently shooting a new movie titled Bubbles and the Sh!trockers, and the European tour that kicks off in Prague is part of it. After Prague, Bubbles and company will head to Berlin, Amsterdam, London, Liverpool, and Glasgow in support of Thornton & The Boxmasters.

“Hey Europe, we’re shooting a movie – come be part of it!” the Trailer Park Boys write on Facebook. “Get your tickets for Bubbles & The Sh!trockers and Billy Bob Thornton & The Boxmasters – it’s gonna be a night of FUN.”

While the other characters from Trailer Park Boys (Robb Wells as Ricky and John Paul Tremblay as Julian) are not officially in Bubbles’ band, they’re part of the movie and appear to be traveling along with the European tour.

Tickets to see Billy Bob Thornton & The Boxmasters with support by Bubbles & the Sh!trockers can be purchased via GoOut for 520 crowns, and cost 590 crowns at the door (if available). The doors at Futurum Music Bar open at 8:00 p.m. on Saturday, June 16.

Thornton and his band are not confirmed to be part of the new Bubbles and the Sh!trockers movie (though this seems likely), but unlike the supporting act, they’re a genuine band that has been touring for the past 15 years.

The actor himself claims that music is his real passion, and he became a Hollywood star by accident. The Boxmasters’ sound is inspired by rockabilly and 1960s rock’n’roll, with nods to bands like The Beatles, The Beach Boys, and The Byrds.

Thornton was in Prague two years ago to film the Netflix blockbuster The Gray Man alongside Ryan Gosling, Ana de Armas, and Chris Evans, and even did some sightseeing in the Czech capital, visiting the Lennon Wall in Malá Strana.
