Prague’s Kino Aero to Host David Lynch Retrospective

David Lynch’s widely-acclaimed return to Twin Peaks came to a close two months ago, but Prague’s Kino Aero has something special in store for fans of the iconic director next week.

From Tuesday, November 7 through Thursday, November 9, the Prague 3 cinema will screen a retrospective featuring five of Lynch’s most acclaimed feature films along with the new documentary David Lynch: The Art Life.

A Kickstarter-funded project directed by Jon Nguyen, Rick Barnes, and Olivia Neergaard-Holm, David Lynch: The Art Life (pictured above) held its Czech premiere earlier this year at the Karlovy Vary International Film Festival and has opened worldwide to largely positive reviews.

Kino Aero’s retrospective kicks off on Tuesday with the confounding 1997 thriller Lost Highway, starring Bill Pullman and Patricia Arquette, and the dark 1986 satire Blue Velvet, with Kyle MacLachlan and Dennis Hopper.

The documentary screens on Wednesday alongside Mulholland Drive, Lynch’s 2001 movie that was reworked from a rejected ABC TV pilot but went on to be named the best film of the 21st century in a 2016 BBC poll that surveyed 177 film critics from around the world

On Thursday, Aero will screen the director’s sensitive 1980 biopic The Elephant Man, which was nominated for eight Oscars, and his divisive 1990 crime drama Wild at Heart, starring Nicolas Cage and Laura Dern.

While these features represent some of the director’s most widely-appreciated feature films, each Lynch movie is a gem; not screened are the director’s debut, Eraserhead, as well as his Frank Herbert adaptation Dune, Twin Peaks: Fire Walk with Me, the beguilingly innocent The Straight Story, and 2006’s Inland Empire.

If you need the right attire to attend the Lynch retrospective, you can get a unique Blue Velvet-themed t-shirt from the Terryho Ponožky e-shop.

Here’s the full schedule for Kino Aero’s November David Lynch retrospective:

Tuesday, November 7:
18:00: Lost Highway
20:45: Blue Velvet

Wednesday, November 8:
18:00: David Lynch: The Art Life
20:30: Mulholland Drive

Thursday, November 9:
18:00: Wild at Heart
20:30: The Elephant Man

All movies will be screened in English with Czech subtitles.

What’s your favorite Lynch film? I’d have to go with Mulholland Drive, but Eraserhead, Blue Velvet, Wild at Heart, and Lost Highway all hold a special spot in my heart.
