Dream Team (2025)

Czech box office Jan. 1-4, 2026: Czech comedy ‘Dream Team’ opens third behind Avatar, Zootopia

The Czech comedy Dream Team debuted to a strong CZK 6.25 million at the local box office in the first weekend of 2026, according to the latest data from the Czech Union of Film Distributors. The sum adds to its total of CZK 9 million including last weekend’s preview screenings, but its impressive opening wasn’t enough to unseat two Hollywood sequels from the top spots.

Avatar: Fire and Ash fell just 22.5 percent to haul in CZK 20.6 million, bringing its three-week total to CZK 126.8 million. Holding strong with little competition on the horizon, the blockbuster Avatar sequel could maintain its position at the top of the charts through the end of the month.

Zootopia 2, meanwhile, surged 38 percent heading into the new year, earning CZK 10.3 million and crossing the CZK 100 million benchmark in the process, bringing its six-week total to CZK 109.3 million. The Disney sequel also looks to hold strong over the coming weeks with limited family-friendly competition.

That’s save for The SpongeBob Movie: Search for SquarePants, which earned CZK 3.67 million over the weekend to come in fourth. The Nickelodeon sequel has now brought in CZK 13.6 million over two weeks of release, including preview screenings.

Among other new releases, Marty Supreme debuted in fifth with CZK 1.73 million. The latest film from director Josh Safide (Uncut Gems, Good Time) will look to add to that total in the coming weeks as it rides a wave of excellent reviews and expected Oscar nominations.

The Physician 2 failed to make much of an impact at the Czech box office in its debut weekend, earning just CZK 656,000 to come in eighth. Director Philipp Stölzl’s sequel to his popular 2014 release The Physician follows the adventures of doctor Rob Cole (Tom Payne), who now brings knowledge of advanced medicine from Persia to London in the 11th century.

The German-produced sequel fared better than Song Sung Blue, which completely wiped out at the Czech box office with just CZK 150,000 in its debut weekend. The musical biography stars Hugh Jackman and Kate Hudson as members of a Wisconsin Neil Diamond tribute band.
