The 1984 children’s classic The NeverEnding Story leapt to the top of Czech streaming charts among movies over the past week according to data from streaming service aggregator JustWatch. Wolfgang Petersen’s beloved classic from the Michael Ende novel is now streaming on HBO Max, and has received renewed interest with the recent announcement of a new film series in the works from See-Saw Films, the company behind Slow Horses and the Prague-shot One Life.
Play Dirty, which led Czech streaming charts last week, falls to second for Prime Video. The action-comedy that The Prague Reporter calls “a rousing return to form for director Shane Black” stars Mark Wahlberg as the master criminal from Donald E. Westlake’s long-running Parker series, a role previously filled by Lee Marvin, Mel Gibson, and Jason Statham.
Apple TV+’s The Lost Bus ranks third for the second straight week. The latest film from director Paul Greengrass (The Bourne Ultimatum, Captain Phillips) stars Matthew McConaughey in the heroic central role as a bus driver who saved 22 children during the 2018 Camp Fire in California.
The Woman in Cabin 10 came in fourth for Netflix, underperforming in its debut weekend behind two holdovers and a 40-year-old classic. The murder mystery stars Keira Knightley as a journalist for The Guardian who takes a luxury cruise that leads to tragedy; Guy Pearce, David Morrissey, Hannah Waddingham, and Kaya Scodelario co-star.
Coming in fifth over the weekend was Broken Voices (Sbormistr), a new Czech film that premiered at the Karlovy Vary International Film Festival in July and was one of three films recommended for Czechia’s submission to the 2026 Academy Awards, but ultimately not chosen by voters after some controversy surrounding its depiction of real-life events.

New to Netflix in the Czech Republic, the 15-year-old series immediately leapt to the top of the past week’s shows without a major new release over the weekend.
Alien: Earth, which concluded its eight-episode run on Disney+ two weeks ago, rose to second over the past week after falling out of the top 10 last week. Expanding the world of the Alien franchise, the new series from creator Noah Hawley was one of the most popular shows in Czechia throughout the late summer and early fall.
Task, an HBO Max series starring Mark Ruffalo as an FBI agent on the trail of a man responsible for a series of heists, rose to third among TV series with the release of its sixth episode. The series will culminate with its seventh and final episode next Sunday.
Streaming in full on Netflix and still ranking in the top five are Monster: The Ed Gein Story, which debuted in second last week, and Wednesday, which released the second half of its second season in mid-September.
