Czech streaming charts Aug. 25-31: ‘The Thursday Murder Club’ leads movies for Netflix

The Thursday Murder Club, an elegant mystery set in an assisted living facility starring Helen Mirren, Pierce Brosnan, Ben Kingsley, and Celia Imrie as amateur sleuths, was the most-watched movie on streaming services in the Czech Republic this week according to data provided by JustWatch. The murder mystery directed by Chris Columbus (Home Alone, Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone) is now streaming on Netflix.

The Blumhouse horror film Wolf Man, which failed to make much of an impact at the box office earlier this year, surged to second in Czech streaming charts in its debut on SkyShowtime. The werewolf thriller features Julia Garner, who also stars in horror hit Weapons, currently doing big business at the worldwide box office.

Horror films continue to perform well on streaming services in the Czech Republic. Nosferatu maintains a spot in the top 10 after four weeks of release on SkyShowtime, while this year’s horror hit Sinners slides back to ninth and last year’s Blumhouse dud Night Swim ranks seventh for Netflix.

Perhaps boosted by good word of mouth, the heist comedy-thriller Eenie Meanie, starring Samara Weaving and Andy Garcia, surged from seventh to third in its second week of release on Disney+.

The Czech comedy Vyšehrad Dvje, which led the Czech box office for the previous two weeks, falls back to fourth place heading into September. Thunderbolts+, which underperformed at the box office during its theatrical release, underwhelms in its first week of release on Disney+, coming in fifth.

Among TV shows, My Life with the Walter Boys surged into the top spot on Czech charts with the release of its second season. All ten episodes of the teen drama’s second season are now streaming on Netflix.

Alien: Earth, which led TV shows streaming in the Czech Republic for the previous two weeks, falls to second. The new series from creator Noah Hawley (Fargo) and set in the same universe as the Alien films is now streaming its first four episodes, with new episodes dropping weekly on Tuesdays.

Other holdovers include the second season of Peacemaker, starring John Cena as the titular DC antihero, which has now released its first two episodes on HBO Max with new episodes releasing on Thursdays, The Summer I Turned Pretty, which drops new episodes for its third season Wednesdays on Prime Video, and MobLand, now streaming in full on SkyShowtime.

The Terminal List: Dark Wolf, a spinoff-prequel to the 2022 action series starring Chris Pratt, debuted in fifth place with the release of its first three episodes on Prime Video. This season focuses on Navy SEAL Ben Edwards, played by Taylor Kitsch, with Pratt returning in a limited role.

It’s nice to see Foundation, which filmed most of its second and third seasons in Prague, enter the Czech streaming charts, with the Apple TV+ sci-fi series coming in tenth. The first eight episodes of the series are now streaming, with the final two releasing over the next two Fridays.
