Prague is set to host a special evening of cinematic music on Dec. 29, as The City of Prague Philharmonic Orchestra brings the work of legendary composer John Williams to the O2 Universum. Following the success of last year’s performance, the concert will feature iconic scores from films including Star Wars, Indiana Jones, Harry Potter, Jurassic Park, E.T., and Home Alone.
The performance, titled The Universe of John Williams, promises a full multimedia experience, with a large choir, visual projections, and audiovisual effects enhancing the live music. British conductor Pete Harrison will lead the orchestra, offering audiences insights into the creation of Williams’ most famous compositions.
Fans of the composer can expect not only familiar themes but also behind-the-scenes stories and surprises, including the theatrical appearance of Darth Vader, a highlight of last year’s show. The evening is designed to combine live orchestral performance with immersive visual storytelling, creating a cinematic experience in a concert hall setting.

The composer behind the classics
John Williams, the most celebrated film composer of his generation, has scored over a hundred films, earning five Academy Awards, 54 Oscar nominations, and 25 Grammy Awards. His music has defined modern cinema, from the adventurous fanfare of Indiana Jones to the magical motifs of Harry Potter’s Hedwig’s Theme, reportedly composed over a single weekend.
Audiences will also hear iconic music from Schindler’s List, Jaws, Superman, and Saving Private Ryan, each score showcasing Williams’ ability to balance epic orchestration with intimate emotional moments. Stories shared during the concert will explore the composer’s creative process, such as his initial hesitation to work on Schindler’s List and the time constraints he faced while scoring Home Alone.
“The music of John Williams is instantly recognizable, yet there’s always a story behind each composition,” Harrison said. “Our aim is to bring both the grandeur and the human side of these works to the audience.”
A multimedia Christmas concert
The 2025 performance will include new program elements compared to last year, ensuring a fresh experience for returning attendees. The concert’s visual component will feature film projections, live close-ups of the orchestra, and special effects, combining cinematic spectacle with symphonic performance.
The evening will conclude with the gentle holiday theme from Home Alone, creating a festive atmosphere for the season. Tickets range from CZK 1,190 to CZK 4,500, with special pricing for wheelchair users and their guides. Admission begins at 6 p.m., with the concert starting at 7 p.m. Tickets are available through Ticketportal and Ticketmaster.
