Brad Pitt in F1 (2025)

Czech Republic box office Aug. 21-24: ‘F1’ continues to power through the summer

The Czech comedy Džob continues to hold strong atop the Czech box office, adding CZK 2.69 million and maintaining its lead despite a 31% drop from last weekend. Tomáš Vorel’s sequel to his films The Can (Gympl) and Vejška has now reached a cumulative total of CZK 42.79 million ($2.04 million) at the local box office.

F1 remains in the runner-up spot with CZK 2.48 million—a modest 2.7% decline—bringing its total to CZK 95.37 million ($4.54 million). Its consistent endurance underscores its status as this summer’s top performer, far outshining superhero franchise entries such as Superman and The Fantastic Four: First Steps. Among other summer blockbusters, Jurassic World Rebirth also continues to hold strong, coming in sixth this weekend to bring its eight-week gross to CZK 59.4 million ($2.61 million).

In third place this week is Zach Cregger’s Weapons, up a spot from last weekend and continuing to perform well in the wake of positive reviews and word-of-mouth. The horror film with hints of black comedy took in CZK 2.06 million this weekend to bring its three-week haul to CZK 8.72 million ($420,000). Cregger himself is currently in Prague ahead of production on Resident Evil, and has dropped in on local screenings of his latest film.

New releases failed to make much of an impact at this weekend’s box office. The biggest winner was the Czech documentary Change My Mind, which opened in ninth with an impressive CZK 1.07 on just 40 screens—less than half of most other wide releases. The documentary follows three pro-Russian Czech citizens as they tour Ukraine’s front lines.

The animated family film Emma’s Big Adventure, a co-production between the United States, China, and Ireland screening locally only in a Czech-dubbed version, opened with nearly CZK 900,000 to crack the top 10.

Nobody 2 failed to generate much interest, with the Bob Odenkirk action sequel managing only CZK 574,000 to debut at 14. The Dakota JohnsonAdria Arjona screwball comedy Splitsville opened even worse, taking in CZK 366,000 at 19; Johnson’s Materialists, meanwhile, held strong in its second week of release to remain in the top 10.
