Train Dreams, an intimate tale of frontier life in America’s Pacific Northwest, was the most popular film on streaming services over the past week, according to aggregator JustWatch. It’s an impressive and much-deserved showing for the film the Prague Reporter calls “one of the very best films of 2025” in its debut weekend on Netflix after premiering at the Sundance Film Festival earlier this year.
Drop, a high-concept thriller from director Christopher Landon (Happy Death Day) that premiered in local cinemas back in April, came in second over the past week after dropping on SkyShowtime. The date-themed thriller set in a romantic highrise starring Meghann Fahy and Brandon Sklenar has drawn comparisons to Die Hard and Phone Booth.
Frankenstein, Guillermo del Toro‘s blockbuster Netflix adaptation of Mary Shelley’s classic horror novel, continues to perform well in Czech charts, coming in the top three for the third straight week. The movie, which stars Jacob Elordi as the Creature and Oscar Isaac as Victor Frankenstein, received a brief theatrical release in the States but went straight to streaming in the Czech Republic.
Christmas season is coming to Czech households early this year as the 2000 adaptation of Dr. Seuss’s How the Grinch Stole Christmas, starring Jim Carrey in the titular role, charted in the top ten for the second straight week, rising all the way up to number 4. The holiday classic is streaming locally on multiple services including Prime Video, Disney+, and SkyShowtime.
Getting a boost from the release of sequel Wicked: For Good in cinemas over the weekend, 2024’s Wicked rounded out the top five. The epic fantasy musical based on characters from The Wizard of Oz is streaming on SkyShowtime in the Czech Republic.
Luca Guadagnino‘s After the Hunt is streaming on Prime Video just one month after releasing in Czech cinemas, and the Julia Roberts-Andrew Garfield drama is faring little better on the small screen than it did on the big screen. It came in seventh in its streaming debut, below 2021 Daisy Ridley–Tom Holland sci-fi film Chaos Walking on Netflix.
The Fantastic Four: First Steps held at eighth in Czech streaming charts in its third week of streaming on Disney+. A House of Dynamite continues to show strong streaming legs for Netflix, as the explosive political thriller from director Kathryn Bigelow charted in the top ten for the fifth straight week.
Playdate, a new buddy action family comedy starring Alan Ritchson and Kevin James, came in tenth for Prime Video in its second week of release. James stars as a stay-at-home dad who gets more than he bargained for when he agrees to a playdate with another dad, played by Reacher star Ritchson.
