Czech streaming charts Nov. 3-9: ‘The Fantastic Four: First Steps’ walks to top in Disney+ debut

The Fantastic Four: First Steps topped Czech streaming charts over the first week in November, according to streaming aggregator JustWatch. The MCU superhero movie starring Pedro Pascal and Vanessa Kirby failed to make much impact in the local box office over the summer, but was the most popular movie on streaming services in its debut on Disney+

Frankenstein, Guillermo del Toro‘s blockbuster Netflix adaptation of Mary Shelley’s classic horror novel, came in second. The movie, which stars Jacob Elordi as the Creature and Oscar Isaac as Victor Frankenstein, received a brief theatrical release in the States leading up to Halloween, but went straight to streaming in Czechia as it debuted on Netflix on Nov. 7.

Coming in third in its debut on SkyShowtime was Black Bag, director Stephen Soderbergh‘s chilly London-set spy thriller starring Michael Fassbender and Cate Blanchett. The well-reviewed film released wide in Czech cinemas back in April.

A pair of new U.S. political documentaries streaming on Netflix also ranked among the top 10 movies streaming in Czechia. In Waves and War, which looks at the use of psychedelics to treat Navy SEALs with post-combat trauma, came in fourth in its debut. The White House Effect, which explores a U.S. political divide surrounding the climate crisis during the George H.W. Bush administration, charted ninth in its second week of release.

A 1990s classic rounded out the top five, with A Time to Kill, a courtroom thriller based on the John Grisham novel starring Matthew McConaughey, Sandra Bullock, and Samuel L. Jackson, coming in fifth. The film is now streaming on Netflix in the Czech Republic.

Among TV series, the German-language Maxton Hall – The World Between Us shot up to the top of Czech charts according to JustWatch with the release of the first three episodes of its second season. The young adult romance, Prime Video’s biggest non-English-language series, will release the final three episodes of its second season over the next three Fridays.

The Witcher, which recently released its entire fourth season on Netflix, came in second for the second straight week. Liam Hemsworth has controversially replaced star Henry Cavill in the titular role, and the latest season has not been well-received by critics or audiences.

Last weekend’s top charting series, the HBO Max horror prequel It: Welcome to Derry, fell to third this week. The first three episodes of the series based on the work of Stephen King are now streaming, with additional episodes dropping on Sundays (Monday morning, Prague time).

Boosted by the release of a new season 5 trailer ahead of its debut later this month, Stranger Things came in fourth among TV shows in Czech charts over the past week. The fifth and final season of Netflix’s most popular series will release in three parts, with volume 1 coming on Nov. 26, volume 2 on Dec. 25, and volume 3 on Dec. 31.

Coming in fifth for Netflix was the Polish miniseries Heweliusz, which tells the true story of the sinking of the MS Jan Heweliusz off the coast of Rügen in the Baltic Sea in 1993. The tragedy claimed the lives of 20 crewmen and 35 passengers.
