‘The Gray Man’ to turn Prague’s Futurama Business Park into Bangkok

Employees at Prague’s Futurama Business Park may be surprised to encounter Thai festival grounds on their way into the office on Tuesday. The elaborate set will be part of a sequence for the Netflix blockbuster The Gray Man, which has been filming throughout areas of Prague over the past two weeks and will continue through July 20.

The Bangkok sequence for The Gray Man at Futurama will shoot for just one night, from Tuesday at 20:00 through Wednesday morning at 5:00, so normal working operations for the business center should be relatively unaffected.

Still, the Bangkok shoot will be one of The Gray Man’s most elaborate set pieces, requiring the participation of around 800 extras who can pass as Thai locals. The scene is set during the annual Songkran water festival, during which Thai residents douse each other with water from buckets, hoses, water guns, and other sources.

The Gray Man’s Bangkok sequence will involve lots of water being flung about while star Ryan Gosling possibly attempts to navigate the wet crowd. Set decorators have already begun constructing an elaborate scene featuring a marketplace, bucketfuls of water, an event stage, and even Thai mailboxes.

Residents in the area have been notified that there will be flashing lights and loud sounds coming from Futurama Business Park throughout the night, and are advised to keep their windows closed.

Other scenes shot for The Gray Man in the Czech capital include a chase scene featuring a Prague tram that was shot in Prague 7 last week, and an extensive shootout in front of Prague’s Rudolfinum concert hall that has been filming over the past two weeks.

Scenes for The Gray Man have also been filmed at the National Monument on top of Vítkov Hill in Žižkov and the Negrelli Viaduct in Karlín. The Gray Man will also shoot in Prague’s central náměstí Republiky square later this week.

Directed by Anthony and Joe Russo (Avengers: Endgame and Avengers: Infinity War), The Gray Man boasts a star-studded cast headed by Ryan Gosling (Drive) and Chris Evans (Captain America). Gosling has been widely spotted on set, though Evans remains largely unseen; according to local media reports, however, they both arrived in the Czech capital at the same time.

Billy Bob Thornton, Alfre Woodard, Ana de Armas, Jessica Henwick, Wagner Moura, Dhanush, Regé-Jean Page, Julia Butters, Callan Mulvey, Eme Ikwuakor, Scott Haze, Michael Gandolfini, Sam Lerner, Robert Kazinsky, and DeObia Oparei also star in the film.

The Gray Man is a Jason Bourne-esque globetrotting thriller about a former CIA operative who goes rogue and is tracked by his former handlers throughout Europe to save the daughters who don’t know he exists. Gosling stars as Court Gentry, the former CIA operative, while Evans plays Lloyd Hansen, who leads the chase for him throughout international locales.

At a budget of $200 million, The Gray Man will be the most expensive Netflix production to date, and one of the biggest film projects to ever shoot in Prague.
