Prague’s Tiskárna na Vzduchu Kicks Off the Summer Cinema Season Tonight with Blue Velvet
Tiskárna na Vzduchu (literally, Open-Air Printer, named after the former factory where it is located) is one of the more unique hangouts in Prague, serving as a beer garden, performance venue, and all-around chill hangout.
It’s located next to the Výstaviště exhibition grounds in Prague’s Stromovka Park, one of the favorite destinations for summer jogging, rollerblading, or simply relaxing in in the Czech capital during the warmer months.
And Tiskárna na Vzduchu is also home to an annual summer cinema: the 2017 edition will be rung in tonight, June 22, a day after summer has officially started and the Prague is turning up the heat.
While Bio Oko’s new summer cinema in the Výstaviště exhibition grounds may have stolen a little of its thunder, that hasn’t stopped Tiskárna na Vzduchu from returning for the 2017 season.
The venue will be ringing in the summer cinema season tonight with a true cult classic: director David Lynch’s surreal 1986 mystery Blue Velvet, starring Kyle MacLachlan, Laura Dern, Dennis Hopper, and Isabella Rossellini.
The programming choice might not be coincidental, with Lynch’s long-awaited return to Twin Peaks currently airing on TV.
Next Tuesday, June 27, the summer cinema festivities at will continue with a screening of Jim Jarmusch’s Coffee and Cigarettes.
Screenings start at 21:00. Admission to Blue Velvet goes for 100 CZK, while the Jarmusch gets a 50 CZK discount.
Along with some craft local beers on tap (SHELF 11º OTAKAR for 35 CZK and Únětická 10º/12º for 32/38 CZK) Tiskárna na Vzduchu also offers some street food courtesy of local food trucks like Prague Jerk Station and BistRAW.
