The 89th annual academy awards, hosted by Jimmy Kimmel at Hollywood’s Dolby Theater, will take place this Sunday, February 26, from 17:00 PST.
Here in Europe, that means the show begins at 2:30 in the morning, and will likely last until around 6:00 a.m.
Last year, Česká televize aired the Oscars live, with an poorly-received attempt at simultaneous translation, but they’re not trying it again this year. The show will be broadcast on local TV first at 20:20 on Monday, February 27.
But there’s at least one option in Prague for catching the Oscar ceremony live: popular expat bookstore and restaurant The Globe, which has been broadcasting the show live every year for the past decade-plus.
The Globe will stay open – and so will their kitchen – until the final awards are handed out in the wee hours of Monday morning.
