Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba Infinity Castle (2025)

Czech box office Sept. 11-14: ‘The Conjuring: Last Rites’ holds off anime smash ‘Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle’

The horror hit The Conjuring: Last Rites managed to top the Czech box office for the second straight weekend, earning an impressive CZK 9.2 million with a 37 percent drop to bring its two-week total to just shy of CZK 30 million ($1.5 million). The latest Conjuring sequel is purportedly the last to feature Ed and Lorraine Warren, played by Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga, but massive worldwide earnings may dictate otherwise.

Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba Infinity Castle finished second at the Czech box office with a CZK 5.1 million debut. The trilogy capper smashed worldwide box office records over the weekend, including at the U.S. box office, where its massive $70 million (CZK 1.4 billion) debut shattered a 26-year-old record for anime features held by Pokémon: The First Movie – Mewtwo Strikes Back.

In Prague cinemas, Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba Infinity Castle is currently only screening in its original Japanese version with Czech subtitles; given the high interest in the film, look out for potential screenings with English subtitles at the city’s arthouses in the coming weeks.

Aside from anime, animated family films also saw a big boost at the Czech box office this weekend, led by debut Heidi: Rescue of the Lynx, a German-Spanish-Belgian co-production about a young girl who must protect a wild cat against a businessman. The film finished fourth in its Czech debut with CZK 1.46 million.

In the second weekend after the start of the school year, several other family films saw significant gains at the local box office, including The Bad Guys 2 (up 39 percent), Smurfs (up 52 percent), Lilo & Stitch (up 29 percent), and How to Train Your Dragon (up 56 percent).

The Czech comedy Srnky (which translates as Deer) finished third in its debut weekend, but failed to follow through on large preview numbers. It has a ways to go to catch summer smash Džob, which finished eighth this weekend to bring its 7-week haul to CZK 48.5 million ($2.35 million).

The first-rate Stephen King adaptation The Long Walk came in seventh at the Czech box office in its first weekend, while summer holdovers F1 (sixth) and Jurassic World Rebirth (ninth) continue to maintain spots in the top ten after more than ten weeks of cinema release.
