Czech streaming charts Sept. 1-7: ‘Wednesday’ leaps back to top among TV shows for Netflix

The Thursday Murder Club led Czech streaming charts among movies for the second week in a row according to data from JustWatch. The murder mystery set in an assisted living facility starring Helen MirrenPierce BrosnanBen Kingsley, and Celia Imrie leads an impressive performance from both movies and TV shows for Netflix.

In second place this week was Ice Road: Vengeance, a Liam Neeson sequel to the 2021 The Ice Road. The film had already been available on VOD since earlier this summer, but shot up in the charts in its first weekend of release on Prime Video.

Third among films was Lilo & Stitch in its first weekend of release on Disney+. The live-action remake has raked in CZK 70 million at the Czech box office this summer—and is still playing in local cinemas—but fell behind the Netflix mystery and Liam Neeson sequel in its first weekend of streaming release. Thunderbolts* held steady for Disney+, coming in sixth this weekend after hitting fifth in its streaming debut last week.

Highest 2 Lowest, a Spike Lee remake of Akira Kurosawa’s classic High and Low starring Denzel Washington and Jeffrey Wright, came in third among films in its debut on Apple TV+. The film had a brief release in cinemas in the U.S. before heading straight to streaming in most territories.

American Psycho, Mary Harron’s classic adaptation of the Bret Easton Ellis novel that featured a star-making turn by Christian Bale, rounded out the top five. The film celebrated the 25th anniversary of its release in Czech cinemas (Sept. 7, 2000) this weekend and is available on both Netflix and HBO Max.

Wednesday shot to the top of Czech streaming charts among TV shows over the past week for Netflix following the release of the second half of its second season. Worldwide numbers for the second half of season two were reportedly down—though perhaps spurred by the start of the new school year—but the Addams Family series performed well locally following the release of a Czech trailer featuring a cult classic song.

The Summer I Turned Pretty, which drops new episodes for its third season Wednesdays on Prime Video, continues to hold strong, finishing second over the past week. After leading the charts last week, My Life with the Walter Boys fell to third; all ten episodes of the teen drama’s second season are now streaming on Netflix.

Alien: Earth, which releases new episodes on Tuesdays, led the charts after dropping its first two episodes but has been slipping since, dropping to fourth this week. The Terminal List: Dark Wolf rounds out the top five, with new episodes releasing on Wednesdays.
