‘Resident Evil’ reboot to film major action scenes in Prague’s Karlín district next week

The streets of Prague’s Karlín district are set to transform into a cinematic war zone as production continues on Resident Evil, the latest installment in the long-running horror franchise. Filming is scheduled between Oct. 29 and Nov. 2, with nighttime shoots running daily from 3 p.m. to 3 a.m., according to city officials and production representatives.

The American production, supported locally by Stillking Films, will bring extensive special effects to the area—including artificial snow, high-speed driving, and simulated gunfire. Preparations are already underway, with location crews setting up in Karlín from October 24, reports Expats.cz. Residents have been advised of street closures, parking restrictions, and temporary noise disruptions as the large-scale shoot unfolds.

The Karlín shoot will take place on streets adjacent to the area’s recently-renovated Negrelli Viaduct. Resident Evil isn’t the first Hollywood horror film to utilize the viaduct; Guillermo del Toro‘s Blade II shot in the area more than two decades ago

The Prague location shoot mark the next phase of production for director Zach Cregger’s reboot, following initial filming earlier this month in the North Bohemian town of Litoměřice. The film, which continues shooting across the Czech Republic through early 2025, ranks among the country’s biggest foreign productions this year.

Nighttime filming to feature stunts and simulated combat

According to notices distributed by the location team, Jirsíkova and Malého streets in Karlín will be fully closed to traffic during the shoot, while sections of Pernerova and Vítkova streets will face limited access. Residents were also asked to switch off indoor lights during filming to maintain the dark, atmospheric setting required for the scenes.

“Dear residents and business owners,” reads a notice posted on surrounding streets. “From October to January 2025, an American horror film will be shot in Prague and the surrounding areas. As your homes and offices are located near one of the filming sites, we would like to provide you with some important information.”

Resident Evil is a long-running horror video game series that has inspired several film adaptations. The main theme revolves around a virus that turns most of humanity into zombies, while a small group of survivors struggles to cope with life in a post-apocalyptic world. The latest version brings to Prague a star-studded team of filmmakers, including director Zach Cregger and cinematographer Dariusz Wolski. Large-scale productions such as this come with certain restrictions. To minimize their impact, we would like to inform you about the planned measures in your area well in advance. We also sincerely apologize for any temporary inconvenience this may cause.”

“During filming, Jirsíkova and Malého Streets will be artificially covered with snow and cleared of parked cars. Vehicle access to these areas will be prohibited. Malého, Jirsíkova, part of Pernerova, and part of Vitkova Streets will have parking restrictions due to the film production. Please respect the temporary traffic signs.”

“The filming will involve gunfire, fast driving, and other action sequences. We understand this may be disturbing, so these scenes will be carried out with respect for nighttime quiet hours. As we will be shooting a dark/night scene, we kindly ask residents to keep their windows unlit during filming if possible.”

Czech production company Stillking Features is managing the local shoot of Resident Evil. Stillking has a long history of facilitating major international productions in Prague, including Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol, Spider-Man: Far From Home, and Snowpiercer. Location assistant Lukáš Škoda said Czechia was selected for its distinctive architecture and the versatility of its filming locations.

A major international production for Czechia

The new Resident Evil film is directed by Zach Cregger, whose 2022 horror hit Barbarian drew acclaim for its tense atmosphere and grounded storytelling. Cregger’s reboot promises a return to the survival-horror tone of Capcom’s original video games, focusing on a lone protagonist navigating a viral outbreak rather than the ensemble-driven format of the earlier film series.

Austin Abrams, known for The Walking Dead and Weapons, leads the cast as the central courier tasked with delivering an antidote amid a city overrun by infection. The film’s ensemble also includes Zach Cherry (Severance), Kali Reis (True Detective), Johnno Wilson (Twisted Metal), and Paul Walter Hauser (Black Bird, Richard Jewell). Acclaimed cinematographer Dariusz Wolski — a frequent collaborator of Ridley Scott and veteran of the Pirates of the Caribbean series — serves as director of photography.

The production has been allocated CZK 191 million (about USD 9.1 million) in support from the Czech Audiovisual Fund, indicating a total local local spend of roughly CZK 764 million ($36 million). It joins other recent high-profile horror and sci-fi shoots in Czechia, including Nosferatu and Blade Runner 2099.

Principal photography on Resident Evil is expected to continue in Prague and surrounding regions through January 2025. The completed film, co-produced by Sony’s TriStar Pictures, Constantin Film, and PlayStation Productions, is slated for U.S. release on September 18, 2026.

With large-scale nighttime scenes set against Karlín’s industrial architecture, the Prague shoot underscores Czechia’s continued status as a hub for major international productions — and marks another milestone in the country’s growing reputation as a preferred location for high-budget genre filmmaking.
