The Netflix action sequel Extraction 2 will have an exclusive red carpet premiere at Prague’s Kino Lucerna this evening, and director Sam Hargrave was on hand to introduce the film to an audience that includes some of the crew who worked on its production.
The Prague premiere is part of a world tour for Extraction 2, with its director and star Chris Hemsworth and previously presenting the movie in Manila, Madrid, and Berlin. On Monday, the pair will bring Extraction 2 to New York City. Hemsworth, unfortunately, was absent from the Prague premiere.
While previous stops on the Extraction 2 world tour appear to have taken place in multiplexes, the Prague screening will happen in one of the oldest surviving cinemas in Europe. Kino Lucerna dates back to 1909, and makes for one of the most iconic cinema experiences in Prague.
Hemsworth on Hargrave have both shared media from previous Extraction 2 premieres to their social media channels, so keep an eye out for updates from the Prague engagement tonight.
Extraction 2 filmed in Prague during the winter of 2021-2022, with the production making extensive use of rural locales outside of the Czech capital. Filming also briefly took place in the city center of Vienna in Czech neighbor Austria.
Extraction 2 was originally slated to shoot in Sydney, but relocated to Prague due to pandemic restrictions in late 2021. The move from summer in Australia to a harsh winter outside Prague gives the film a much different feel than the original, which largely took place in Bangladesh.
In addition to Hemsworth, Extraction 2 co-stars Golshifteh Farahani (Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales), Tinatin Dalakishvili (The Undeclared War), Adam Bessa (Mosul), and Daniel Bernhardt (John Wick).
Another big name officially joined the cast last week, when Hemsworth revealed that Idris Elba appears in a cameo role as the mysterious Man in the Suit, who kicks off the movie’s plot. Olga Kurylenko (Quantum of Solace, Black Widow) has also recently been confirmed to be starring in the action-packed sequel.
In Extraction 2, Hemsworth stars as black ops mercenary Tyler Rake, left for dead in the original film but once again tasked with an impossible extraction mission. This time, he must rescue the family of a ruthless Georgian gangster from the maximum-security prison where they are being held.
Joe and Anthony Russo (who directed Avengers: Infinity War and Endgame, and The Gray Man, which also shot in Prague) serve among the producers for the Netflix sequel.
For general audiences in the Czech Republic and elsewhere, Extraction 2 will premiere on Netflix worldwide from Friday, June 16.
