One of the biggest film projects to ever shoot in the Czech Republic will begin production in Prague this weekend as The Gray Man officially kicks off its Prague shoot from Sunday, June 27.
According to local reports, stars Ryan Gosling and Chris Evans arrived in Prague earlier this week, though fans hoping to spot them at Václav Havel Airport were unlucky. Avengers: Endgame directors Anthony and Joe Russo have also presumably arrived in the Czech capital.
Production on The Gray Man will run through July 20, and scenes for the action thriller will be shot entirely in Prague, with many taking place on exterior locations in the city center.
One of the primary locations utilized during filming will be the area surrounding Prague’s neo-renaissance Rudolfinum building in the city center. Nearby locations at Jan Palach Square and the Dvořák Embankment by the Vltava river will also be used.
Filming for The Gray Man in this area will take place on July 2-6, 11-12, and 17-18.
Other locations in the city center that will be used for filming The Gray Man include Prague’s high-end Pařížská street and Čechův most (July 9-12) and central square Náměstí Republiky (July 15-16).
Local casting agencies still need dozens of extras for a scene involving a state funeral, which may be shot at the Vítkov National Memorial on Monday, June 28.
According to Prague 8 Deputy Mayor Jiří Vítek, filming on The Gray Man will also take place at Sídliště Bohnice from July 8-10 (h/t to Prague Pig).
One of The Gray Man’s biggest scenes, involving hundreds of extras and set in Thailand during the Songkran water festival, will be shot July 13-14 at a location on the outskirts of the city.
Like the recent Marvel series The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, local fans can expect The Gray Man to take over many areas of the city over the next month, with much of the filming slated to take place across outdoor locations in central Prague.
The Gray Man is a Bourne-like globetrotting thriller about a former CIA operative turned assassin who is tracked by his former handlers throughout Europe while he attempts to save the daughters who don’t even know he exists.
Gosling plays Court Gentry, the former CIA operative, while Evans stars as Lloyd Hansen, an ex-colleague who leads the chase for him through Europe and beyond.
The extensive cast of The Gray Man also features Billy Bob Thornton, Alfre Woodard, Ana de Armas, Jessica Henwick, Wagner Moura, Dhanush, Regé-Jean Page, Julia Butters, Callan Mulvey, Eme Ikwuakor, Scott Haze, Michael Gandolfini, Sam Lerner, Robert Kazinsky, and DeObia Oparei.
At a budget of $200 million, The Gray Man will be the most expensive Netflix production to date, and one of the biggest film projects to ever shoot in Prague.
