Last night’s winners at the Golden Globes included two (temporary) Prague residents, and local filmmakers HayotFilms helped stream them in to the virtual awards ceremony in New York and Los Angeles.
Rosamund Pike, who has been living in the Czech capital for the past eighteen months while shooting the fantasy epic Wheel of Time, picked up a Golden Glove Award for Best Actress in a Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy for her role in I Care a Lot.
It was a surprise win since the film only debuted on Netflix a week ago, and Pike beat out Oscar favorite Maria Bakalova from Borat Subsequent Moviefilm, who will compete for Supporting Actress at the Academy Awards but competed in the lead category at the Globes. Pike saluted Bakalova in her acceptance speech.
“Thank you for recognizing the dark side of comedy,” the actress said from Prague.
“My fellow nominees, I’m so honored to be in this room with you. In my movie, I had to swim up from a sinking car. I would still rather do that than being in a room with Rudy Giuliani.”
“Maria, I salute your bravery.”
Gillian Anderson, meanwhile, has been in Prague since the beginning of February shooting the new movie White Bird: A Wonder Story. Producers recently announced that Helen Mirren, who has won an award or two, had also joined the cast.
Anderson picked up a Golden Globe for Best Performance by an Actress in a Supporting Role in a Series, Limited Series or Motion Picture Made for Television for her role as Margaret Thatcher in the Netflix series The Crown. The actress was considered a favorite to win.
Because of COVID-19 concerns, the Golden Globes took place in a largely virtual environment this year. Even the hosts were separated by thousands of kilometers, with Amy Poehler at The Beverly Hilton in Los Angeles, the usual Globes venue, and Tina Fey at NBC headquarters in New York.
Pike and Anderson both streamed into the ceremony from a Prague hotel, and HayotFilms handled the production to ensure their awards-worthy look didn’t go unnoticed.
The filmmakers were on hand when both actresses won and gave their acceptance speeches from Prague.
“Last night was amazing. After so many days of pre-production, our camera crew helped NBC to live stream the 78th Golden Globes Awards (2021),” HayotFilms wrote on social media.
“We had a chance to be with Hollywood stars like Gillian Anderson and Rosamund Pike, when they won the nominations. It was so much of an experience for us to be with them in their big day. They were amazing. Congratulations to Gillian and Rosamund on their winning the Golden Globe.”
