The horror sequel The Conjuring: Last Rites led the Czech box office over the past weekend with an impressive CZK 14.6 million, which was more than the rest of the top 20 films combined. Including Wednesday previews, the total gross for the film in Czech cinemas stands at CZK 16.2 million (about $780,000).
The Conjuring: Last Rites has been a worldwide smash, and continues an impressive run of box office horror hits for distributor Warner Bros. following Sinners, Final Destination: Bloodlines, and Weapons. The studio has also been responsible for some of the year’s other biggest hits, including A Minecraft Movie, Superman, and F1.
F1 continues to chug along at the Czech box office, coming in third this weekend to cross the CZK 100 million ($4.8 million) mark. The Brad Pitt-starring racing movie is just the second film of 2025 to gross over CZK 100 million after A Minecraft Movie, which ended its run north of CZK 157 million ($7.6 million). Last year, five films ended up grossing more than CZK 100 million, led by Inside Out 2.
Jarek, a documentary about Czech singer-songwriter Jaromír Nohavica that led the local box office last week, fell to second place with a modest 21 percent drop. The Czech comedy Džob and the animated sequel The Bad Guys 2 rounded out the top five, respectively.
After a month of steady earnings, Weapons suffered its first major drop at the Czech box office, falling 55 percent to come in sixth. The Zach Cregger horror film has earned a total of CZK 12.8 million locally. Director Cregger is currently in Prague ahead of production on Resident Evil, which is expected to kick off next month.
The only other major new release this weekend was the Paolo Genovese romantic comedy Madly, which earned CZK 314,000 to come in 16th among the top 20. Srnky, a Czech comedy that releases Sept. 11, continues to do well in limited preview screenings, earning CZK 314,000 this weekend to bring its advance total to CZK 1.53 million.
