‘King’, with Shah Rukh Khan and Suhana Khan, eyes Prague as part of European shoot

As Shah Rukh Khan gears up for his latest cinematic outing, King, Prague may once again serve as a backdrop for a high-profile Bollywood production. The action thriller, which also marks the big-screen debut of Khan’s daughter Suhana Khan, is set to begin its next shooting schedule across multiple European cities, with Prague among the frontrunners for the action, according to multiple sources.

Following the completion of its initial shoot in Mumbai earlier this year, the film is now entering its international phase. With Siddharth Anand at the helm—known for sleek action blockbusters like Pathaan and WarKing is expected to feature elaborate chase sequences staged across iconic European locations. Cities mentioned as potential filming locations include Budapest, Berlin, and Prague, with the European shoot expected to begin in late August.

European action set pieces to drive production

According to reports from Indian entertainment outlets, director Anand is finalizing locations for the film’s next schedule, which will feature SRK and Suhana Khan in high-stakes sequences opposite Abhishek Bachchan, who plays the antagonist. Production sources indicate that Prague is being considered for some of these sequences, which will involve “never-before-seen locales” and “sleek chase scenes.”

“These will be quick, smaller-unit shoots aimed at filling plot gaps without requiring the full crew’s return,” a production insider told Bollywood Hungama. The aim is to film several key action scenes that add narrative tension while showcasing European cityscapes in dynamic ways.

The European leg of the production is reportedly designed to heighten the film’s visual scale. Known for blending style with adrenaline-fueled set pieces, Anand previously directed Pathaan, one of 2023’s highest-grossing Indian films, which similarly featured globe-spanning action. With King, he reunites with Shah Rukh Khan in hopes of raising the bar even higher.

Although earlier reports named Sujoy Ghosh (Kahaani) as the film’s director, Anand ultimately took over creative reins, reworking the script to craft what sources describe as a “larger-than-life cinematic experience.”

Prague’s past ties with Shah Rukh Khan

Should King come to Prague, it would mark Shah Rukh Khan’s third major film to shoot in the Czech capital. He previously filmed scenes for the 1998 comedy Duplicate, and returned in 2017 for the romantic drama Jab Harry Met Sejal, which featured a notable song-and-dance sequence shot in the Prague Castle Gardens.

“I am a big admirer of Prague,” Khan told the Czech Film Commission during the latter’s production. “I really like the gothic churches and monuments. It’s fascinating that it is very old and yet a very living city.”

Given this past connection, Prague remains a fitting location for Khan’s latest project, especially as King seeks to present high-end visuals that blend action with atmospheric European settings.

While final shooting locations have yet to be officially confirmed, Prague’s film-friendly infrastructure and visual appeal make it a strong candidate. The city continues to attract international productions thanks to competitive incentives, experienced local crews, and its versatile architecture that can double for various locales.

King revolves around a mentor-protector figure played by Shah Rukh Khan and his protégé, portrayed by Suhana Khan, navigating perilous environments while pursued by a formidable enemy. Although specific plot details remain under wraps, the film is positioned as an emotional journey between its two leads, enhanced by its globetrotting setting.

Suhana Khan made her small screen debut in 2023’s The Archies, directed by Zoya Akhtar for Netflix. King will mark her first theatrical release, and her on-screen pairing with her father is expected to be a major draw for Indian and international audiences alike.

The film’s ensemble cast also includes Deepika Padukone, Rani Mukerji, Jaideep Ahlawat, and Saurabh Shukla. Production is scheduled to continue through the end of 2025, with a release expected in 2026.
