Ana de Armas in Ballerina (2025)

‘Ballerina’: New trailer for John Wick spinoff with Ana de Armas showcases Prague locations

Lionsgate has dropped new trailer for Ballerina (official title: From the World of John Wick: Ballerina), the John Wick spinoff starring Ana de Armas and Keanu Reeves, and it showcases more Prague locations than glimpsed in the first trailer released last year. The movie was shot in the Czech capital and other locations around the country during the winter of 2022–23.

In Ballerina, de Armas plays Eve Macarro, a Russian ballerina-turned-assassin seeking revenge against those who murdered her family. The character was first introduced in John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum, though she was then portrayed by Unity Phelan in a brief appearance. De Armas now takes over the role, leading the franchise’s first feature-length spinoff.

The new trailer reveals that Keanu Reeves will return as John Wick, offering support—and, at times, opposition—to de Armas’ character in a violent showdown that fans of the franchise will expect. Taking place between the events of John Wick: Chapter 3 and John Wick: Chapter 4, the film further expands the series’ assassin-filled universe while diving into Eve’s personal quest for vengeance.

The new trailer showcases some major Prague locations such as the National Theatre, the popular Náplavka embankment area, and various city center streets around the Czech capital. See what you can spot here:

Ballerina marks another major action role for de Armas following her turns in No Time to Die alongside Daniel Craig and The Gray Man with Ryan Gosling and Chris Evans. In 2023, she received her first Oscar nomination for portraying Marilyn Monroe in Blonde.

The film will also feature returning characters from the mainline John Wick films, including Anjelica Huston as the head of the Ruska Roma crime syndicate, Ian McShane as Continental manager Winston, and Lance Reddick in his final on-screen role as hotel concierge Charon. New additions to the cast include Gabriel ByrneNorman Reedus, and Catalina Sandino Moreno.

The trailer gives viewers a first look at Prague locations that serve as the backdrop for the film’s action-packed story. Scenes were filmed at the National Theatre’s Nová scéna, the Masarykovo nádraží train station, and throughout neighborhoods like Karlín and Bubeneč. Additional work took place at Prague’s Barrandov Studio.

Outside the city, Ballerina filmed at historic sites including Dolní Beřkovice Castle, Kačina Castle, and the ruins of the Belvedere Summer Castle near Kutná Hora, which is where snowy scenes with Keanu Reeves were shot. Other locations across Central Bohemia included Toušeň, Semily, Kouřim, Kladno, and Kolín.

While most principal photography took place in Prague and the surrounding region, Ballerina returned to production in early 2024 for reshoots conducted in Budapest. The film’s local production was handled by Czech Anglo Productions.

Directed by Len Wiseman (Underworld, Live Free or Die Hard), Ballerina is based on a screenplay by Shay Hatten, who also wrote for John Wick: Chapter 3. Hatten originally sold the spec script to Lionsgate in 2017 before adapting it to fit into the John Wick universe. Oscar-winning writer Emerald Fennell also contributed to the screenplay.

The John Wick series has become a global phenomenon, with the first four films grossing over $1 billion (CZK 23 billion) worldwide. John Wick: Chapter 4 alone earned more than $440 million (CZK 10 billion) globally, becoming the highest-grossing entry in the franchise. Ballerina follows last year’s Peacock miniseries The Continental, which served as the first spinoff and was also filmed in Budapest.

Ballerina is scheduled to hit cinemas worldwide on June 6, 2025, distributed by Lionsgate.
